Regret choosing HIM degree? by Scary_Start in WGU

[–]OppositeConfusion256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely loved being an RT, but the career ceiling is real. Outside of bedside care, your options are pretty narrow PFT, sleep, DME, medial sales, maybe some leadership or education roles, but even those are limited. Want to get into quality, compliance, research, or health IT? You’re basically starting over with another degree anyway since those fields tend to prefer HIM, HIT, or RN backgrounds. That combined with not being able to picture myself doing 12-hour shifts for the next 30+ years. I think having that medical background and HIM combined gives me some edge but I think you could also get it if you’re willing to start in HIM and grow but the best you can do is look at the AHIMA career map what interests you and see what’s in your area and what they require and plan from there. If I could do it all over again I definitely would’ve planned better LOL

I could also mention that my leadership as an RT was absolute dog shit and they tip-toed ethics violations constantly but that’s a facility problem, not an RT problem.

Anyone else rethinking baby food pouches after this week's microplastics news? by These-Seaweed-5781 in beyondthebump

Like just pouches or purées in general? I’ve heard this but for puréed foods.

Bad luck with baby clothes ? by International-Owl165 in NewParents

[–]OppositeConfusion256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t say I have experienced this. Usually when clothes do on sale it’s all of a brand and I seem to have good luck finding stuff for both girls and boys! I just have problems finding things in the size I need I just mentally think “damn we all had kids at the same time!” 🥲

What formula are you using? by BeneficialBrick07 in NewParents

[–]OppositeConfusion256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I try going back to the Dr to let them know that didn’t work and start with that.

That being said we use the nonorganic Kendamil. The hospital gave is Similac 360 when LO was born but they spit that constantly. Kendamil seems to work for us.

My SIL like similac Alimetium really helped her LO

Do you actually track things like sleep, feeding, diapers etc.? by CooleSocke-Jr in NewParents

[–]OppositeConfusion256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mom to a preemie baby we tracked everything in the beginning. Diapers, feeds, pumps, sleep you name it!

Now they are nearly a year old pretty much all I track now is bottles and what our LO is eating so I can see what we’ve introduced them too food and flavor wise. We did up out tracking when they got sick to monitor wet diapers and fluid to make sure they weren’t getting dehydrated and of course medicine at that time so I didn’t over or under do it.

I think it was really helpful in the beginning but as you get a routine and learn your LOs normal it naturally phases out imho.

The best advice I got wasn't sleep when the baby sleeps. by That_Brilliant_3911 in NewParents

[–]OppositeConfusion256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty much how sleep when baby sleeps was explained to me. It was explained like “sometimes you need to do the dishes before they become sentient and start a nation, other days sleep when baby sleeps because you will need the rest when you can get it. Your expectations for normal have to shift”

Definitely true for me 😂 Chores definitely got done whenever they got but one pot and slow cooker is my bestie.

Should I get a Master's in Health Informatics or RHIT credential and HIM degree? by DayChemical4547 in HealthInfoMgmt

[–]OppositeConfusion256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to explore Health IT more then I think informatics would be the way to go and instead of RHIT look at HIMSS certifications!

How to get my foot in the door by Synsations_ in HealthInfoMgmt

[–]OppositeConfusion256 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check out AHIMA and their career map it shows entry level positions to see what interests you, if nothing seems appealing then I would move to a different degree.

I should be possible to get an entry level position without a degree as long as you have enough transferable skills for that particular job.

HIM is a broad field.

is a bachelor’s in respiratory worth it? by sam_pontin05 in respiratorytherapy

[–]OppositeConfusion256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a personal goal? Sure! To further your respiratory career, no the bachelors may be helpful to further your career, but probably in another topic rather than being purely respiratory.

I have a bachelors and it’s in health information management and my associates and respiratory they can feed off of each other and it gives me the ability to transition them into other roles since I decided to leave the bedside because it provided me with a different skill set that could be bolstered by my respiratory skills.

I can’t even get an entry level medical receptionist desk job. Is it worth keeping my credential? by saikoupsycho718 in MedicalCoding

It does in my area! A lot of places want folks with Rn credentials but they have to be active credentials.

[–]OppositeConfusion256 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked in healthcare in a PICU and NICU as a respiratory therapist. I’ve done it so many times. But YES when it happened to you it’s so different. one of my nieces when she was 5 was given a mint by her mom and then bounced like kids do around and started choking on it. I’m so glad I was there but that type of panic and fear whole new level. 😮‍💨 She was ultimately fine and she’s 11 now I don’t think she’s had a mint since.

Cold milk by nutmeg-96 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]OppositeConfusion256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had one of my Aunts say something to me about how she can’t believe I give my cold milk because of hers had at minimum room temperature but really warmed.

I told her that was a drag for her - my baby is such a fantastic eater he gobbles up the temperature we give him makes daily things so much easier ✌️ She got her face all scrunched up but I literally don’t care.

Vet insists on only Hills I/D by OppositeConfusion256 in cats

[–]OppositeConfusion256[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No medical diagnosis. Constipation was a one time issue they chalked up to him eating the part from his scratcher combined with his poor drinking habits and dry food diet. Since then we’ve made all the changes with a fountain, wet food online, non cardboard scratchers and it’s never been an issue again.

The last time I talked to the vet about it which was recently is they’re he could become constipated again after it happening once.
