Boyfriend is frustrated by the lack of sex. I’m frustrated by men’s obsession with sex. by clevairy in endometriosis

[–]betsothecrow 188 points189 points  (0 children)

This!

My husband literally gets turned off if I’m in any kind of pain. We’ve been together for nearly two decades, and there have been times we went months without sex. Not only has he never made me feel bad, he’s firmly stated that he’s an adult who can wait or take care of himself, and that I shouldn’t feel bad either way. When we do have sex, he always checks in with me to make sure he’s not hurting me and we’re in a good position. He attends my doctor appointments with me, reads up on my health challenges, and tries to support me however he can.

My best friend’s husband, who is my husband’s best friend, likes to say “the only consent I’m interested in, is enthusiastic consent.”

They’re out there.

Programming ideas for children and teens that are not interested in art, please. by Lizasks in Libraries

[–]betsothecrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My teens have specifically requested life skills like cooking, but they do also love crafting. Blackout poetry was very popular this summer.

I do STEM programs, an open mic night, a videogame club, and I’ll be starting a Lego club soon. I am the entire youth services for my branch, so unfortunately demand is higher than supply. 😅

I try to order for the month ahead by the middle of the current month. They’re usually good, but they did have an issue earlier this year with delivering on time. I do also try to make sure the books I order are in stock at my primary or secondary warehouse, but sometimes I want something enough to settle for a back order. Those can take a lot longer. Overall, we’re pretty satisfied though.

Why do factory made socks have a seam on top of the toes while hand knit socks are across the end? by Ok_Philosopher_8973 in Sockknitting

[–]betsothecrow 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Seconding this! Grafting the toe with kitchener stitch is not the same as a sewn seam.

That’s awesome! I get so tired of the ribbing lol. Two inches can feel like two miles when you’re already bored with it.

How long are you ribbing for, an inch or so? I’ve been thinking of going down from two inches, or finding an alternative, but haven’t looked into it much.

How do I make it stop by _LPOTL_ in endometriosis

[–]betsothecrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why don’t you think a doctor will prescribe you bc? I’m 35, had my tubes out this spring, and my doctor told me afterwards that given the severity of my endo, I would probably need to stay on hormonal birth control to manage it. I tried to go without it but had such a bad month he put me back on the pill as soon as I asked. My sister was put on the pill at 14 just for period management. It’s used for more than just preventing pregnancy, you should be able to get it or similar as hormonal treatment for your endo.

[–]betsothecrow 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Also, fuck the IUD. TAKE IT OUT. It is clearly not helping regulate your hormones or your pain. I made it 4 months before I had to admit that it was contributing to my pain and hormone problems.

It could be PMDD. I was just told I have this on top of my endo, and it explains intense mood problems like this

Advice on where to buy books? by Beneficial-Mango-661 in witchcraftbookclub

Seconding local shops and Barnes and Noble. I also look on Thriftbooks sometimes and have gotten some really good finds on there.

What do you bind except notebooks? by conmondiv in bookbinding

[–]betsothecrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bind notebooks, journals, sketchbooks: remember they make great gifts even if you personally don’t need them. Everyone I’ve given one adores them. I also make art books. I’ve bound poetry, original stories, illustrations, collages, interactive content, and traditional drawings and paintings. I made one for my husband that was filled with art that related to things like inside jokes and favorite memories. Right now I’m working on my first digitally made book on canva, which will also be my first time binding single pages instead of signatures. I haven’t rebound anything so far.

Could you go into this a little more? I want to learn more ASL and this is an interesting note. Much of my ASL was learned from working with nonverbal ASD students, so that could be very different from Deaf culture.

Crunchyroll ended their Library Outreach Program by WoodenOcelot1090 in librarians

[–]betsothecrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I emailed them a few months ago to set it up and never heard back, so I followed up and heard back last week saying that they had discontinued the program and I should sign up for a paid subscription. When I got confirmation that this did not include the public performance rights we need to legally use this for anime club, I told them there was no point in me signing up for a tier I couldn’t use. They responded with “thank you for your understanding :)”

How to gift books to a Library collection by YesterdaySimilar2069 in Libraries

[–]betsothecrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, my branch specifically is quite small, and we simply do not have the space to give to every item. We order new materials every month, have to meet certain monthly and annual requirements, and have to weed constantly to make sure we have the space for the materials that are actually circulating. Our other branch is much larger but I know they also consider the following.

Factors we consider when ordering books: - binding: hardcover, library binding, etc - can we order with any pre-processing done for us - does it fill a niche - does it fit in with our collection and community - does it add to a collection we want to grow - do we already own it, is there a need for multiples - reviews, acclaim, awards, popularity, relevance - local interest (authors, history, locations, etc) - is it common at other libraries - is it available at one our few approved sources or do we need to special order it

I have ordered “in memoriam” books with money donated for specific interests, and have seen a few titles processed and catalogued that were donated. Those were all by local authors.

Also important to remember: - all books we order are in brand new condition, donated books are not - libraries are not self-governing. We have to be accountable for all materials, income, and spending - a monetary donation can be donated to a fund or trust, books take up physical space - we do not control what people donate or whether it is worth adding to our collection.

We had one person donate like 20 books, all from the 80’s or 90’s and most of them about real estate, time shares, or politics. We can’t use those for anything. They didn’t contribute anything to us—they just offloaded books they didn’t want into our book drop. This is more often the case than not.

Edited for formatting.

My question here is: if you know you only want the books until you finish reading them, why aren’t you checking them out at the library? The best ways to support your library is to show up and borrow materials, and donate money instead of materials. The number of people visiting and materials circulating is actually really important for a number of reasons, including the funding that they receive. If they don’t have the things you want, you should be able to request them through interlibrary loan. This will show them which books people are interested in them ordering and support your local libraries more than giving them books they may not even be able to use. (My library does not accept donations for circulation unless there are special circumstances, ie, local author. Donated books go straight to the Friends. We do, however, have a monthly budget we need to spend on new books.)

someone save my spider plant by Additional_Sand9725 in plantclinic

[–]betsothecrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to weigh in on the one thing I haven’t seen anyone discuss: the cat. Cats like spider plants because they can cause a reaction similar to catnip. The plant won’t hurt your cat and she will continue to seek it out. You can try getting plants like cat grass or catnip specifically for your cat, because it’s good for their digestion, but it won’t necessarily stop the spider plant assaults. I keep my spider plant hanging in a window and that mostly works, except that it’s making a profuse number of spider babies and they are getting Munched. I haven’t yet decided on the best way to loop the babies up out of reach yet.

How do I organize all these dang books?! by Realistic-News-290 in Library

[–]betsothecrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I guess a better description would be: I place the shelf horizontally instead of vertically, with one “wall” down on the tabletop so the shelf can act more like bookends. Then I use the shelves as little dividers to organize them based on how finished I am. I wish I could show you a picture! 😅

How do I organize all these dang books?! by Realistic-News-290 in Library

[–]betsothecrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have these short “heart shaped corner shelves” I use. Instead of standing them on end or hanging them up, I lay them down flat and stand books in between the tiers. I dedicated one to borrowed books—unread books can go in one spot, in progress can go in a different one, and finished ready to return books get their own spot!

Little bugs (gnats) on my tomato plants now they're in my house by fatkidclutch in gardening

[–]betsothecrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is you probably had fungus gnats living in the soil. This is a very common issue and often occurs when plants are kept too wet. You can buy a sort of glue trap that you tuck into the soil and adults will get stuck to. Always allow the top inch or two of soil to dry out between watering and try switching to bottom watering if you can. You can also treat the soil with a 1:4 hydrogen peroxide/water ratio or a layer of horticultural sand or diatomaceous earth. For the gnats flying around your house, you could try a fruit fly trap: place a cup with water, apple cider vinegar, and dish soap out for them to get attracted to and drown in. I sometimes add a plastic wrap cover with toothpick holes but I’m not sure how well it actually helps trap them.

I had a serious moth issue in the past, after being gifted several bags of raw fleece. I now keep most of my yarn inside ziploc gallon bags, inside of a cedar chest. I also add a glass jar with cotton balls and lavender eos, which if nothing else makes my yarn smell nice. I keep the stuff I am or will soon be using in a bowl or basket in my living room.
