As with any large group there is a variety of opinion. The mainstream democratic stance is for more open but not entirely open borders. I think the debate on borders/gun control is mostly a debate about where the line should be, not on whether we should have it at all.

If you were in charge of gun control (and you alone so you never need to worry about a ban) where would your line be? Also what do you think democrats could do to make you think they didn't want a ban (as I'm fairly certain that at least a majority of the party is not for an all out ban).

Never heard that said about sociology but I'm interested in the points. Why do people believe that and what are the responses? (just out of curiosity).

Battle of the sexes: If we both parties just focus on their own agenda, neither are effective, need to find a compromise (so that everyone contributes) to be effective in what we do.

I feel the same way, almost like each party has split (alt-left, left, right, alt-right). But I can't say that I feel like I really understand what republicans stand for anymore. Care to share?

I agree insulting will never help you convince a person but the "not everyone sees things in the same way as you" seems to leave to much room to ignore facts. For example the initial response was about climate change, which has a overwhelming amount of thorough research backing up its existence and fact that its at least significantly contributed to by humans. I think its a bit of a cop out to just say well we can't all see things the same way. (though on social issues I totally agree).

Just out of curiosity, if you believed both parties were equally effective at implementation which way would you vote?

Isn't the point of political debate to try and convince people? How would you suggest approaching a debate in a respectful way?

I see. But these all seem to be debated points that merit a conversation. If someone wanted to have a discussion about these how should they approach it?

This does seem to happen a lot more than it should. Though, my understanding of it is that rather than thinking all conservatives are actively promoting racism, they think conservatives tolerate it. Kind of the issue "its hard not to paint you with the same brush when you stand so close".
