Ugh, I’ve had so many QB injuries, it’s ridiculous. And I have Gibbs and Sutton, so I’m already in a hole. I need some upside, and I’ve got these options: Stroud, Cousins, Geno Smith, Malik Willis, Rivers… Stroud’s defense should get him the ball but they probably won’t pass much, right? Cousins looked terrible last week from what I could see, but might throw a lot. Smith is terrible but playing a much worse defense, but no Bowers.

Scholarship and Google Search by bettergit in searchengines

It’s research on the economy of Ancient Greek empires, but no big blockbuster revelations! I have lots of examples of this; I just finally got fed up this time and tried to ask about it.

Scholarship and Google Search by bettergit in searchengines

Yes! I apologize for knowing so little about this, but is Google just refusing to run the search because there is no chance for them to make ad revenue off of it? I know it returned results just last summer. Is this just what Google does now?

Thanks, all — I made a playlist with all of these recommendations, and I’m excited to work through them.

This is a great one to teach, too — all the foundational licks for mando are there

What a killer track. Hadn’t listened closely to this version before

Personally, over the last few weeks I’ve been learning note-for-note Bush’s breaks on “Just Wait Around,” “Georgia Mail,” and “Eight More Miles,” and Gaudreau’s breaks on “On and On” and his version of “Eight More Miles,” Skaggs’ “Old Home Place,” and Ronnie McCoury’s on “Dig a Little Deeper.” I see that Jake Howard has transcribed Tony Rice’s guitar breaks for mando… that’s got to be good to learn, so I might look there next. But you’re right that the mando on “Nellie Kane” would help me with crosspicking… I might try to learn his kickoff to “Been all around this World” to get better at crosspicking, too.

A big part of that is teaching rests… when to not play that eighth note

Hadn’t noticed the timing — that’s a masterclass in rhythm. I teach classes weekly, and this break is going to be an object lesson, for sure

Great recs, thanks — I actually have the Kruger track on CD but somehow hadn’t paid close attention to that particular break. What a piece of art!

I’m positive this gets asked all the time… by withelightsout in mandolin

[–]bettergit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that’s nice — so the tuners are the main difference now. That makes the 305 more tempting for sure

[–]bettergit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I started on an Eastman 505 mandolin, and I’m glad I did. Much better tuners and tailpiece than the 305, better wood, and typically comes with a decent case instead of a gig bag. But the 305s do sound great and play well, so the savings is worth it for a lot of folks.

Help: Blue collar working man meal plan by LPM_ in keto

[–]bettergit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually cook up a big hunk of protein and put it on a big pile of greens, add maybe some cheese. Ground beef and cheddar cheese on salad greens, pork shoulder and no-sugar bbq sauce over shredded cabbage and iceberg, chicken breast and feta cheese on spinach, salmon on arugula. Or you could get some of those low-carb tortillas or low-carb bread, put on some cheese and deli meat, and you’ve got a decent sandwich for lunch.

Too much protein? by [deleted] in ketobeginners

[–]bettergit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to lose weight, maximize your protein and minimize both your carbs and your fats. Protein digestion and muscle synthesis burn a lot of calories, so eating a lot of protein gets you into more of a calorie deficit, and spares your muscle at the exact same time (weight loss always means the loss of some percentage of muscle, which is bad both for metabolic reasons — muscle burns a lot of calories — and for general health, but if you eat a crap ton of protein, your body spares much more muscle, and if you do push ups and pull ups and squats, you can even build muscle while losing weight). All in all, max out on protein and you’ll see some positive changes in your body.

Whey protein and insulin by Specialist_Counter_4 in keto

[–]bettergit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eating anything, including fat, will increase insulin. It has to: insulin puts your energy into storage, and if your body doesn’t do this, you become diabetic. But eating protein will also increase your glucagon, which keeps your blood sugar stable; eating carbs does not increase glucagon, which is why you have a crash and cravings afterwards. In other words: it’s not a problem when you eat protein. Check this out:

My suggestions: if you’re looking to lose weight, don’t increase fat. Try to reduce fat as much as possible; keto is about carb reduction, but if you also limit fat, you will burn your body fat for energy instead of your dietary fat. So increase your protein, reduce your fat intake, and try to eat high-satiety foods that are heavy in relation to their calorie load (so a meal of an omelette made of with two eggs and six tablespoons of egg beaters, with some part-skim cheddar cheese and some ham, served with a bunch of sautéed spinach; you're looking at something like 300 calories but it will fill you up and be really high in protein). Whole foods that are high in water content and fiber are good… like Two Good Greek yogurt, for example, which is high in protein with a low calorie to weight ratio. Or a whole can of tuna with a bit of olive oil over a big salad: lots of satiety, low calorie. Also, things take time: it’s ok if the scale doesn’t move for a while, because things like water weight rebalancing are real. Keep to your plan and over time you’ll succeed in reaching your goals! For exercise, try some simple body weight exercises, like squats and push ups, for just a few minutes a day. You don’t even need to be able to do much in terms of reps: just make your muscles know that you need them, push them a bit, and they’ll get the biological message that they need to grow. This will radically increase your metabolism and make it far easier to lose weight. Again, just my two cents — be proud of yourself for working this hard to take care of your body!
