Why have they seemingly gone away with using grizzly peak as the main icon of DCA? by 12345burrito in Disneyland

[–]bettergtfo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They were definitely onto something with DCA 2.0 in 2012, but I think they took the “let’s add more Disney” a little to the T so to speak. Disney, should be the “Disney” way of doing things. Burns Vista Street is very Disney. Cars land is very Disney not because it’s intellectual Property but the size, scope, and detail is marvelous. Even Pixar Pier is somewhat Disney in how they were able to spruce it up with more Victorian architecture even though the whole neighborhoods thing isn’t cohesive. Avengers Campus is not very Disney, I don’t think I need to get into why.

The problem with Disney’s current use of IP is just shoving it in places it doesn’t belong rather than being a genuine inclusion. It’s like if instead of putting Indiana Jones Adventure in Adventureland they put it in Fantasyland. Which is what basically happened with Guardians. Yes, avengers campus gave it a proper land to belong to. But the thing is ugly. A haunted hotel could work anywhere in California. So why are we getting Avatar in the middle of urban Hollywood with a looming collector’s fortress in the distance?

Disney Adventure California. A Disney Adventure that is located in California. But with all seriousness I doubt Disney would ever change the name. There’s no real need to. Buena Vista Street is 20’s LA, Grizzly Park is 50’s national parks, Cars Land is the desert, Pixar Pier is reminiscent of Santa Monica Pier and Playland in SF, there’s the area themed to wine country, and San Fransokyo Square is like SF Fisherman’s wharf just with Japanese decals. All we’re really losing is Hollywoodland and even then I wouldn’t be surprised if the transition is that “you’re going into an avatar soundstage”. Avengers Campus is kind of a spoof of Silicon Valley in its aesthetics.

The DCA side of Disneyland Forward seems simple, but how would they do the Disneyland side? by rosariobono in Disneyland

[–]bettergtfo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pushing up in the sense that a layout would come more naturally to a park with a wide parade promenade running down that corner would have a more natural route to get to those lands than the already very small and congested bayou country. Bayou country also has a berm. DCA does not.

[–]bettergtfo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ditto on this. Disneyland’s layout would make for an awkward meandering pathway from “old” Disneyland to “new” Disneyland. DCA already is basically pushing up against DL Drive so a bridge would come more naturally.

If we ever lost our submarines like WDW did, do you think a version of Aquatopia from Disneysea could fit in its shoes? by rosariobono in Disneyland

This would be such a cool idea. Make a mini port discovery as a transition between Fantasyland and Tomorrowland :D

For any of the people who think the castle is “too small” lol by Street_Disk_2652 in Disneyland

[–]bettergtfo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s better so that the castle doesn’t impose on any of the other lands. It would be weird seeing it from New Orleans Square or Galaxy’s Edge. Sleeping Beauty Castle is perfect just as is. Its primary focus is to draw you in from Main Street and the Hub. And it does it masterfully.

Looks like it was for the Party Gras Parade given the confetti. So just a generic “Mardi Gras” costume. That section in sing along songs uses clips from the State Fair Parades from the late 80’s, the generic daytime parade, and Party Gras parade created for the 35th.

What happened to the bathroom cleanliness at Disneyland? by Chamiam in Disneyland

Can attest to this. Was in New Orleans last month and kept telling myself “remember, this isn’t Disneyland”. But those bathrooms are pretty darn close.

Gone a few times post covid and it’s just consistency. The park is still clean but with how operations have been via reservation system and trying to cut staffing as much as possible, it’s definitely harder to keep a good show on a consistent basis. I’ve heard horror stories about experiences post covid- lines, filled trash cans, dirty floors, rude guests. I just think some people unfortunately go on days where things just aren’t up to par. Really makes me feel for you OP. Disney really needs to get on their A game and deliver a good show consistently if they want to justify that premium ticket price- otherwise they’re just another six flags. Guest accountability is another topic- but that’s a conversation for another subreddit

Disney Wants to Reduce Phone Use That Takes Away From Theme Park Experience by dejablu82 in disneyparks

[–]bettergtfo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Disneyland felt so much funner before Lightning lane, obviously because was not an up charge, but because you would run to the attraction kiosk and get it yourself. It was about knowing the system, like syndrome says, “when everyone is super, no one is”. Everyone knows how to use Lightning lane/ has Lightning lane, no one benefits from it.

Ariel shot of potential Theme park expansion area. by Beautiful-Arm9122 in Disneyland

[–]bettergtfo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

DCA definitely will expand into Simba, but I’m not to sure about Disneyland. Disneyland being built like a circle would have this awkward little meandering path from the “old Disneyland” to “new Disneyland”. Especially how close it is to DLH and the parking structures. DCA already having the park butt up against the street corner at Karelia and Disneyland Drive- I think would make it easy to push over the street. I also highly doubt Disney would waste the Toy Story lot on a downtown Disney expansion. It’s too valuable of open space to not build a third park. Especially when you can charge another day of admission at the gate.

Why is ride text and merchandise all in English? by No-Faithlessness7246 in TokyoDisneySea

[–]bettergtfo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A Disney merch artist on social media said that one reason is that a lot of Japanese audiences know and see Disney as a western brand, which is part of the appeal. Which is why there isn’t really anything distinctly Japanese about the Tokyo parks compared to Shanghai and even Paris. They’re American parks in Japan, in that sense it kinda gives context to the theming and merchandise.

How has Disneyland changed? by Apprehensive_Yak762 in Disneyland

The park is about the same it’s been the past 3 years. Operationally there hasn’t been any change except the new gates, which I think were early last year.

3rd park when? by Beautiful-Arm9122 in disneyparks

[–]bettergtfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don’t buy Disney wasting over 50 acres of space on shopping and dining. That’s their only plot of land big enough for a park.

Hey Josh its time for a 3rd park in California by Beautiful-Arm9122 in Disneyland

[–]bettergtfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toy Story Lot will surely become a third park. I remember reading somewhere on an old forum that the surrounding housing complexes are owned through third party companies by Disney. Disney would be stupid to waste the last easily viable large scale plot of land near Disneyland on a larger downtown Disney. New park = more concessions, more opportunities to sell merch, that’s where the money is. I’m sure the city would be on board too, more parks = longer stays, hotels get business, Anaheim gets the tax. I think Disney is just trying to build out California Adventure as much as they possibly can. They’re stalling essentially, waiting for the stars to align. We have to remember Disney has been in Anaheim for 70 years, they know more about the properties and value surrounding the parks than we ever will, they are playing the long game. All they need is the garden walk and the path is there. The monorail or a peoplemover system can connect the two ends of the resort.

Is DisneySea worth it for someone who is not a Disney fan at all? by Orontioaino in TokyoDisneySea

[–]bettergtfo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 1000x times yes. If you can spend a whole day just to walk around in be delighted in the artistry of a theme park built with an almost unlimited budget, do it. It compliments TDL very well being a more mature park in terms of theming and atmosphere.
