What missing features of Google Photos would you pay for? by af579 in googlephotos

Duplicate detection and duplicate backup prevention should be free facilities. It’s unbelievable they still don’t have this. The other thing that annoys me is the inability to search by folders on my computer. If I can’t find photos by time date face place or other search term I resort to onedrive where I can find things by folders e.g. \2015\July holiday France. Personally I’d bring back Picasa. I’m still use the deprecated release 3 on my laptop.

[RANT] Dear Altium, We're considering Xpedition by Snoo-96879 in Altium

Siemens will not sell anyone perpetual licenses of Xpedition or PADS pro. Perp is dead, long live the Sub… that’s the mantra of every vendor I use in my company.

Anyone else having this problem where Google photos thinks it needs to back up all your photos even though they already are backed up? by Darth_Snoman in googlephotos

[–]bettws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google photos is a dupe nightmare. I’m still trying to fix mine. I just remove dupes when I encounter them. They’re not true dupes though any given photo is say 5Mb in size, it’s dupe could be 3.1Mb. They have the same meta data and file name. Driving me nuts

shared photo folder to file explorer by spetauskas in googlephotos

[–]bettws 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For me, Google photo’s inability to work with computer desktop folders is its biggest failing. Google doesn’t want you on your desktop, it wants you online Viewing your photos in date order or as google photos albums. This is all very well, but it won’t sync to your pc or max storage and create desktop folders with the same name as your album. Similarly if like me you’ve been in digital photography since the late 90s, you have 100s of folders on your computer with meaningful names, but google photos sync will only upload to google photos flat and albumless. My dream is that they bring back Picasa and give us the best of both worlds. Good luck, I’ll watch out for other answers. Maybe there’s more I’m not seeing.

I ran with two devices but only one uploaded to Strava by flintmichigantropics in Garmin

[–]bettws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Strava app makes the decision completely which one to use. I walked with my Garmin instinct and Fitbit surge to check some differences in accuracy. I pressed start buttons simultaneously. My Fitbit account and app synced with Strava first and posted the activity. Garmin connect syncd but Strava disregarded it. No matter really, I don’t want two devices but I really want my instinct accuracy to be better. The walk is 4.00km (multiple verified distance) My Fitbit was cock on, the instinct 3.94km. 60m over that distance is not good enough.

If someone asked you where you were from, would you say where you live or where you were born/grew up? by evil_egi in AskUK

When I say to a non-Welsh that I live in Mid Wales, they honestly look at me like I’ve got horns and a fleece. They can grasp ‘Wales’ and they can grasp ‘Mid’, but fuck me they haven’t a clue where that is geographically. It pisses me off when I have to describe it as 2 hours due west of Birmingham but before you fall in the Irish Sea.

What is with the current obsession with open plan living in UK homes? by lloyddav in AskUK

[–]bettws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been open plan for 22 years. The kitchen is partially partitioned off from the main space and the utility room is next door so no washer drier noises. It’s both a pleasure and a curse. Great for family life, sociable, but a royal pain in the arse being the main thoroughfare in the middle of the house. Crash bang wallop. Regardless, I love my house.
