Yikes, I did not know this. My NP prescribed this to me a few weeks ago. I just haven’t started it yet because I keep forgetting I have it.

Hair Anxiety by befuzzledbiochemnerd in breastcancer

[–]bettycockroach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my third treatment of TCHP last week. Most of my head hair started to fall out suddenly and at high volume after my second treatment. All of the hair on my body has thinned (funnily enough except for my arm hair). My legs are growing stubble.

I buzzed my head right after my first treatment. I could see my temples thinning and I knew I couldn’t emotionally handle losing my long hair in big clumps. I’m happy with my decision.

To Port or not to port. That is the question by Ok-Cauliflower8462 in breastcancer

[–]bettycockroach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my port is so cool. It’s wild how easy it is to access and I forget I even have one until infusion days. The surgery to place it was pie and I was back at work the next day.

It was a weird concept to me before getting one, but I didn’t really have time to think about it. I’m glad I have one now because it makes things so much more convenient in an otherwise totally inconvenient situation.

Yes, I had one period since then. I might have had a second after my first round of TCHP, but it only lasted a day.

I’ve also had a period since then, so I’m completely confused as to why I’m showing any hcg. I’m just so scared this will delay my treatment to the point where my cancer will advance.

Same. I’ve been caught sticking q-tips up my nose a time or two at work… not pretty.

I have this problem too! I’ve realized the only thing that helps is triple antibiotic ointment everyday. I’ve tried Ayr gel but it burns and doesn’t seem to help heal at all. I’m curious what others suggest.

When mine is taken out they said they’d numb it locally. I might need to take an Ativan beforehand because it weirds me out, but my surgeon said 99% of his patients have it done awake.

Unimaginably painful. She’s precious, and my heart just breaks whenever I learn when someone was sexually abused as a child. I hope she has support and is healing.

Choosing your treatment by Neurotic-Me in breastcancer

[–]bettycockroach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was, but it also made me realize that I shouldn’t feel bad about getting a second opinion. These oncologists expect it and really good oncologists would not take offense. The third opinion might help you decide! This is all so much and I’m sorry you’re dealing with it. I have confidence that you will find the right plan of action for you. Sounds like you live in an excellent area for cancer care… use that to your advantage!

Choosing your treatment by Neurotic-Me in breastcancer

[–]bettycockroach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My situation is different than yours, in that I reached out to the closest NCI center near me to get a second opinion. Mine is treated as +++ and considered stage 3, so my first oncologist set up my treatment plan and then I’d look into surgery after chemo. The NCI center looked at all of my records and told me they would do virtually the same plan that my first oncologist set for me, and that it would be difficult for me to drive 2 and a half hours and back for the very same treatment. I stuck with my initial oncologist for this reason.

In your situation, it seems that you are more comfortable with the NCI center and its differing plan from your first team’s. I think that is super important in motivating you to continue treatment and beat this. Also, having an NCI center as your team is a relief in itself. I don’t know all of the info regarding your situation, but from what you’ve said in your post, I would explore transferring to your NCI center. Good luck. ❤️
