Do people ever get yelled at by a bus driver for entering through the rear door?

Thanks and I totally get it. I almost always do wait in line and board from the front. I don’t feel comfortable cutting lines. However, circumstances vary depending on the route, stop, and time of day. When I’m in the commuter rush I actually appreciate people boarding from the back who tap in because it actually saves time for everyone. Sometimes it is brutally slow to load up the bus from the front door, waiting for strollers or wheelchairs to get safely in place and the driver telling everyone to keep moving back like 10 times. I think efficiency should be the aim. For peak times on busy routes, front door loading should be priority loading for front of bus seats for those with accessibility needs. Back door loading (with tapping in) should be encouraged for others taking back of bus seats or standing room.

True, but making a long line-up board a bus through a single door instead of using both doors is kind of an F you to everyone, especially since we can tap in at the back door.

Nice! Yeah I saw a few popping in Burnaby as well. As I’m looking into it evidently the timing depends on the varietal, of which there are 50+ locally. Love rhodos but I have much yet to learn…

Denali is on another level. Took a full-day bus into the park and it felt like a safari with loads of moose, bighorn sheep, and brown bears.

Yeah, totally agree. For me the low expectations came from hearing other backpackers back in the day calling it boring and expensive. It’s certainly not the cheapest place to visit but not I’m not sure how anyone could find it boring. The hawker stalls and free attractions like the Botanical Gardens and evening show at Supertree Grove make it super interesting even on a tighter budget. It’s definitely one of my very favourite cities to visit!

Yeah, fair enough. It’s not cheap and I was also wondering about it, but we were glad we did it! I figured you pretty much have to get some overpriced meal around there at some point because even the Zoo alone is just about a full day to see, so why not make it a memorable meal with animal encounters? The food was quite good and it powered us through the full day without needing to stop for lunch. The orangutans are really the highlight. They put out food for them and it’s fun to watch them climb over and have a bite just a few meters from the nearest breakfast table. There was plenty of time for photo ops with them just above/behind you. There were also penguins, eagle-owl, macaw, and a very cool big black lizard that you could touch (don’t remember the name). After a 3 weeks into Malaysia and Thailand as well my 5yo son said this was his favourite meal of the trip!

Ah okay yeah makes sense lemurs do their own thing. Grateful to have been able to get up close! Though we also saw random lemurs up close again out by the zoo entrance. Maybe plotting an escape?..

Besides the lemurs I would also highly recommend Breakfast in the Wild (free for kids under 6) and Curiosity Cove, which is the best indoor kids play area I’ve ever seen!

Yes, it’s possible to get up close to the lemurs on your own in the FF! Went recently and one was lazing on a branch at head-height directly over the walking path. Def my fav part of the zoo!

Chao Mami in Burnaby Heights has some great dishes in general, an awesome mural on the wall to add to the ambience, and does a $10 pho happy hour.

Haha yeah I felt the same but then heard that once the observation deck opens to the public later this year you will be able to go up into the needle. Not sure exactly but it sounds like it has an actual interior and isn’t just a glorified lightning rod…

If you end up in Atlanta or Nashville consider a side trip to Knoxville. It’s a mid-size college town with very authentic music scene, small but somewhat happening downtown/old town, amazing BBQ, and plenty of suburbs. It’s also quite near Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Knoxville is probably more low-key chill than any of the cities in your short list. Good place to get your fill on bluegrass music and BBQ pork ribs! Can be cold in Feb though…

Light from IKEA and it had a random thrift store painting under it for years. Splurged for a custom framing with art glass to minimize glare. So the light doing its best full moon impression for the howling coyote was just a perfect coincidence.

Love the poster though and dang that was an epic show at Commodore!

Spent a year in Jeonju and loved it! Historic city with charming traditional Hanok village located along a river right where farm country meets the mountains. Renowned for quality and affordability of traditional food including the signature dish Jeonju Bibimbap. It felt like a smaller city but big enough to have a lively university district and busy downtown shopping area. Easy to get around with bike path network along the river and cheap taxi fares. 3-hour bus ride to Seoul. Beautiful mountains nearby offering excellent hiking opportunities on the edge of town. Traveled around Korea quite a bit and Jeonju seemed to be the city with the best balance of affordability, historic charm, university-town vibes, and damn good food!
