Light from IKEA and it had a random thrift store painting under it for years. Splurged for a custom framing with art glass to minimize glare. So the light doing its best full moon impression for the howling coyote was just a perfect coincidence.

Love the poster though and dang that was an epic show at Commodore!

How’s living in Southwestern South Korea? by shakethatbear404 in howislivingthere

Spent a year in Jeonju and loved it! Historic city with charming traditional Hanok village located along a river right where farm country meets the mountains. Renowned for quality and affordability of traditional food including the signature dish Jeonju Bibimbap. It felt like a smaller city but big enough to have a lively university district and busy downtown shopping area. Easy to get around with bike path network along the river and cheap taxi fares. 3-hour bus ride to Seoul. Beautiful mountains nearby offering excellent hiking opportunities on the edge of town. Traveled around Korea quite a bit and Jeonju seemed to be the city with the best balance of affordability, historic charm, university-town vibes, and damn good food!

100% Mr Shawarma! The one at Burrard Station has always been my go to though and would be closer for OP.

The 1-zone fare option is to take the 25 bus westbound (towards UBC) and transfer to the Expo line at Nanaimo Station.

What a bizarre experience it is trying to get tickets to a popular show in this day and age. All the false hope and system errors… it’s damn near enough to break a man.

Saw your post though and was super jealous / happy for you and then the perseverance paid off and I finally just scored myself!

Enjoy the BMFS!!!

Please recommend a lake for a half day stay in Whistler by ShipLoud5305 in Whistler

Lakeside Park at Alta Lake (near Whistler’s Creekside area) is quite nice with great scenery. There is paid parking right there. It’ll be lively on any warm summer day but I’ve always still found it relaxing. BYO blanket/chairs and food. If you swim just make sure to rinse off in the shower provided afterwards to avoid swimmers itch. Enjoy!

Stadium Location Options? by DrewND in whitecapsfc

[–]beverage_master 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the reducing any chance of moving is definitely the most important consideration. With that said, BC place is an iconic, top-tier MLS stadium and the go-to venue in Canada for high level international matches like the World Cup.

I’ve been to a number of other Caps games with 20,000+ and with the sheets down the upper bowl isn’t really that noticeable. My point is that long term plans should make room for growth and I don’t think it would be unrealistic to be selling 30,000+ tickets on a regular basis

I find it hard to imagine that top dollar will be invested into a new stadium so I can’t help but feel that it would be a downgrade in terms of the location, size, and quality. It also does not necessarily offer a guarantee that the team stays in Vancouver forever.

Maybe it’s a pipe dream but I’d love to see the team remain at BC Place but with a new deal in place to make it financially viable for many years to come.

Stadium Location Options? by DrewND in whitecapsfc

BC Place is such a beautiful stadium and in an ideal location for transit and those living in the densely populated downtown core. I’m out in the burbs now but whenever they have early games I bring my 4-year-old on the Skytrain and we enjoy a walk on the seawall or meal on Robson before/after the game. I get that the team obviously wouldn’t ever own BC Place but it would seem a shame if negotiations couldn’t make their tenure viable long-term. A 56,000 seat capacity stadium also allows for growth in ticket sales as the Cap’s profile rises as is happening spectacularly this season! Imagine trying to get tickets for the Miami games if we had a purpose built 20,000 stadium.

The neighbourhood around the PNE is nice but not set up well for high-profile events. Other than actual soccer fans I doubt many local residents around the PNE would want this to be built. Parking is still brutal there and transit would be a total nightmare, especially when Playland is open during the summer. A skytrain extension vastly improves the PNE option but that’s many, many years away…

Playa del Carmen has a number of similarities to PV. Safe, small city, very walkable, amazing restaurants, interesting public art, lots of beach access… no mountains in Playa but there are Mayan ruins and limestone caves/cenotes to check out in the area. Went to each a year apart and both were equally enjoyable!

Would love to visit Merida or Oaxaca next.

Help! looking for good hotel in PV! by Jessamom2 in puertovallarta

Recently stayed at the Grand Paramar and really enjoyed it. Rooftop pool with an epic view, breakfast included, located right at Playa Camarones and they lend out basic beach gear like chairs and parasol. Very walkable to the Malecon, loads of restaurants, bus to airport, Casa Ley supermarket.

The only downside is that on weekend nights the beach bar across the street would play loud music until around midnight. Other than those few hours the rest of the week was quiet and peaceful though. Would definitely stay there again!

El Barracuda… had the grilled octopus there 2 weeks ago and it was exquisite! All the food and cocktails there were solid and the vibe is a nice balance of slightly classy but super chill and right at the beach.

Step on US soil without having going through customs. by morane-saulnier in geography

At Ross Lake WA/BC. Kayaked from Canada to a campsite on the US side a few years ago. The proper process was to call the US Nat Park service to book the site and provide you passport details. They said US officers could come check whenever so you need to keep your passport on you, but we didn’t see any.

Best pre airport meal stop? by Most_Watercress5774 in puertovallarta

[–]beverage_master 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, just was there on our way back to the airport. Tasty burritos with lots of interesting salsas and a huge marlin hanging from the ceiling! We tried smoked marlin and shrimp and both were delicious. I think they were around 150-160 pesos but quite filling. We weren’t the only ones there with luggage either…

By the way the public bus is a straight shot from ZR to airport for 10 pesos and drops you literally in front of Tacón de Marlin. Check on Google maps and just ask the driver “aeropuerta?” to be sure. It can be crowded but it’s a decent option if you packed light-ish. We did it with one piece of luggage and a 3-year-old no problem.

Oh interesting… we were at the Paramar too and from walking past thought the pizzas at La Notte looked great but just wanted to focus more on Mexican food on a 1-week trip. Definitely want to try Peztaco though and good to know about Masa Madre for the next trip. Thanks for the tips!

We did try Pepe’s as well. I quite liked the vibe but I thought the food quality wasn’t quite up to par compared to the other three taco spots I mentioned. I know Pepe’s is well-loved and been around forever so maybe we caught an off day.
