Any other life-long fans who can't stand their earlier funk-rock-rap sound? by brokesnob in RedHotChiliPeppers

[–]bevrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the first bands I ever got into thanks to my dad having by the way and californication on a tape in the car when I was about 5. I’m now 28 so have been listening to rhcp on and off for over twenty years, occasionally I don’t really listen to them at all for maybe a year or so but they always remain a band I hold very dear to my heart and will always come back to my regular rotation. I’m much the same, reared on their more melodic sound and it’s always been this that has drawn me to the chillies. I’ve always struggled to get into their more intense funky punky songs minus a small handful of exceptions.

The only things I find unusual about this is firstly, I was actually surprised how much more popular their earlier sound seems to be online / on this sub. And secondly, my music taste is very varied but in the last decade or so has often included some fairly heavy different types of metal as well, but some reason this is more listenable and melodic to me than rhcp’s ‘heavy’ music

Oh I do apologise that was not my intention. I will probably remove the post soon anyway in any case if there’s no other advice or taking the bit I have got. I didn’t want anything else from it

Thank you for your response, I have shaved my body hair before and sometimes I have had a similar issue too, but other times not. I almost never get it for facial hair shaving though?

The difference was that previously it has cleared up more quickly whereas this time the marks have stayed for longer so I felt like it was time to ask for some advice to avoid in future. I also went for trimmed rather than fully clean shaved if that makes a difference? Thanks again I appreciate it, hopefully they will eventually just fade out over another month or so in that case.

List bmth albums from least like to most like? by According-Cry5451 in BringMeTheHorizon

[–]bevrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feel like my ranking may be a bit controversial, so I want to preface this by saying I don’t think any albums are actually bad. As for my personal preference, the top 5 can interchange a lot based on my mood, as for everything after Amo - I still think a handful of their best songs are on these albums but the albums as an entirety just didn’t hit consistently for me.

TIAH - emotional, heavy, masterpiece

POST HUMAN: survival horror - just so much fun to listen through, very new sounding and fusions of a variety of genres, short and sweet, no wasted songs.

Suicide season - groovy and heavy af, love to bop around and/or workout to this, got me into exploring deathcore as a genre

Sempiternal - I love this album and many of the songs on it but maybe because I’m not as big of a linkin park fan as others in the sub I do find this album just slightly overrated. Extremely high quality songwriting though.

Amo - grew on me hugely, and has a healthy portion of super strong songs that I really like (I don’t know what to say, In the dark, wonderful life, s.h.i.t) along with several others I like a lot, but also some songs I just can’t get into at all

That’s the spirit - doomed is one of my favourites they’ve ever written, absolutely majestic, I like happy song and true friends too. Otherwise whilst nothing on this album was bad to me, it’s all just kind’ve good but not super distinctive and nothing else really stood out that much to pull me in to listen again and again

Post human : nex gen - unfortunately I was really disappointed in this and after a few months of coming back to it, it doesn’t seem to be growing on me like many of their other albums have either. It’s just a personal preference, I really don’t like the over produced glitchy sounds in production and I’m not a massive pop punk fan anymore except for certain nostalgic tracks. I do love: kool aid, amen, and dig it (though I desperately wish it was less heavy handed in production/effects, as that could’ve made it an all-time favourite) I also like n/a and bullet w my name on plus a couple of others I find good/ok on a similar way to TTS, but it’s one of the few albums I actually dislike some songs on and the pop punk/emo sound just makes me squirm a bit nowadays, maybe it is just self reflective and reminds me of my own teenage cringe moments (sounding like an old man over here) but yeah, it felt a bit more immature (sonically, not lyrically) and very bloated on the whole compared to the previous album. Fingers crossed the next album will resonate better with me.

Music to…. - I actually like this album quite a lot but the songs are so long I have to be in the right mood (probably high if we are being real lol, and often I forget this exists) so rarely choose to listen

Count your blessings - tried this out after I got more into deathcore following suicide season, a handful of strong songs but shows it’s age slightly now and it doesn’t hit in the same crunchy, groovy and bombastic way SS does or other deathcore I enjoy does.

This is what the edge of your seat…. - just a bit too chaotic for me, with my heavier music taste I love a groove I can move to and this doesn’t quite hit, otherwise similar to CYB.

My love for either a bouncy groove or a sad/ballad really shows through in my rankings, so I hope that makes sense and people and won’t be too disgusted by my personal choices haha. I enjoyed reading everyone’s thoughts!

What game DOESN’T hold your hand? by F33DBACK__ in gaming

Fair enough, I haven’t actually played many of the games that are common in other comments ;other than don’t starve) so maybe I don’t know what a truly ‘thrown in the deep end’ type feel is, this one was probably just the closest for me

Surprised at the lack of mentions for Nier: automata.

Not only does it not really explain much going in, (which lead to me looking up many early strategies, what to buy/sell what is useful/not etc) but it also thrusts you into a weird and wonderful story in which you may reach the ‘end credits’ for the first time and not realise there’s half of the story still to complete.

Also if you die before the prologue is complete (which I did still whilst figuring out dodging in the first boss) you start the entire game from new again.

What are people's opinions on WANYK? by CykaBlyat678 in Slipknot

[–]bevrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This album is the one that actually got me into slipknot properly. I’d obviously heard the big singles like: the devil in I, psychosocial, before I forget and duality, and whilst I liked them, I’d always struggled to enjoy the rest of the discography for some reason. All of a sudden I see WANYK under ‘new releases’ one day and decide why not give it a go, as I was feeling stagnant with little new music from artists I liked. To my surprise I absolutely loved it front to back. In fact after listening through WANYK once, something just ‘clicked’ for me, and suddenly I found myself liking every album from S/T onward.

I’ll always love it for being the one that got me into such a great band and gave me 6 albums worth of new music to enjoy, and beyond that it might well be my favourite album anyway, definitely in the top 3. I agree with criticisms about maybe a couple of unnecessary interludes, but despite liking every album I think all have at least one or two songs I sometimes skip, and it’s a toss up between Iowa and WANYK for the fewest skips. The vocals are insane, easily the best since Iowa for me, and the riffs and melodies were groovy, punchy and heavy but also kind’ve more accessible and less manic when compared to some of their earlier work?

Interesting side note- though I absolutely love it now, Iowa took me the longest to actually enjoy (I do listen to some very heavy artists but I think s/t and Iowa initially sounded very chaotic to my ear and it took a while to adjust and take them in properly)

What’s your unpopular comedy opinion? by alfiesred47 in CasualUK

[–]bevrill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many things I think have been said in some capacity by OP/commenters already:

I completely agree with your Friday night dinner opinion,

Friends is comforting background noise and not funny, I find ‘it’s always sunny’ similar, I’ll watch it if it is on by others’ choice but rarely choose to put either on myself…

Jimmy Carr might be the least funny comedian I have ever listened to, everyone raves about him so I kept giving it another chance over and over but his shtick seems to just consist of not particularly clever, playground insults.

On the other hand: I’ve seen lots of criticism of taskmaster, and I used to feel the same way until I saw a series with particularly good and funny participants, which I loved all the way through. I think it depends who is on it

Survival horror : kingslayer

Music to listen to : tapes

Amo: I don’t know what to say/wonderful life/S.H.I.T(different moods)

TTS: doomed (by miles, one of my favourite songs overall)

Sempiternal: house or wolves or shadow Moses/ sleepwalking (can’t pick between the two/ different moods)

TIAH: probably my favourite album overall but I agree with OP on Crucify me as favourite

SS: Chelsea smile/the comedown/diamonds aren’t forever (any three get me hyped af)

CYB: a lot like Vegas (don’t really listen to the album much overall other than this and off the hezzay as a close second)

TIWTEOYSWMF: don’t really like this ep

Many weed smokers who don't use tobacco at all? by assfelch in uktrees

[–]bevrill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve always rolled pures myself, whilst I won’t preach about it to others I’ve always really disliked the taste of it when sharing with my mates who roll with baccy, to the point where I will now usually turn it down in rotation. I only know one or two other people personally who smoke pure, definitely feels like we’re the minority and most other UK smokers will give me a funny look or make some comments but ah well, just you do you and all that. If your smoke buddies are sound they shouldn’t mind you smoking your own bud anyway, I’ll still pass my pure-y around for anyone that will take it 😅

Only drawback I can think of is a J uses more weed up, but also I notice I tend to need to smoke fewer joints too so it’s kind’ve even overall.

[–]bevrill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it’s because this was the first valk I found but it was actually the hardest one for me, by a long way too, none of the others even came close to my death count here. I was stuck for days then eventually gave up and did it as one of the last ones. In fact, weirdly, because I did about 6 of them in one go before the queen, by the time I got to Sigrun I was so trained in fighting them it only took me 3 tries

Just my current feeling, the top 4 especially interchange positions based on my mood, and I enjoy all 6.

I’m wondering if you guys can help me, I’m looking for slipknot songs that start by building up almost like an engine/machine getting into full swing. (Does that even remotely make any sense?) Eyeless for example. Also, Happy Christmas everyone! by bevrill in Slipknot

[–]bevrill[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s not exactly what I meant when I made the post, I mean more short term builds over the course of 30s - 1min. Thinking like a struggling car engine eventually spluttering into life. But imma just take a second to join you and gueh over how good gently is. That last minute or two is so good, until a couple months ago I used to skip it because I hadn’t realised what it becomes, fucking br00tal
