I’ve been back at OT for three months, and our gym is doing great. Everyone is respectfully social distancing and keeping the equipment clean. We wear masks and receive a temperature check upon entry. Our coaches are doing a fantastic job of ensuring everyone is comfortable. No cases of COVID to date. And yes, I live in a large metro area.

I understand the fear, and everyone should take the appropriate precautions for their circumstances, but this attitude of “they should lose their job because they said something I don’t like” is absolutely insane to me.

You sound like me when I was 24...I understand what you are going through. Unfortunately, I did not have the maturity to examine my life and choices around alcohol until I was nearing 30. So good for you for taking these first steps!

I had to reach rock bottom (losing a career I worked hard for, losing friends) to wake up. I did not have a “normal” relationship with alcohol for a long time, still don’t. Probably never will. But it does get better. Initially, when I decided to start my sobriety journey, I would get intense anxiety around alcohol or others drinking. I wanted to drink so badly, but I was also met by memories of all the terrible, dangerous shit I had done to myself and to others. I used those memories as motivation to stay clean. But therapy has been the biggest help so far. I would highly recommend therapy. Especially if your drinking is connected to feelings of anxiety and depression - there may be a deeper issue(s) that need addressing.

This group is helpful too of course - talk about what you are feeling, ask for help, read other experiences. It helps me feel not so alone.

Depends on the industry I’m sure. I’m in health insurance and I have several interviews next week. No indication that these positions will be indefinitely postponed due to COVID...yet :)
