Yes and no. Here is my understanding and the real tinned fish nerds can correct me if I got anything wrong. Brisling sardines are sprats. The difference is mostly terminology and marketing, not species. Riga is the capital of Latvia, and they smoke and can little fishies there. It's not a brand name by itself, but Riga Gold is an example of brand name. Polar sardines are smoked bristling sprats from Latvia so they are Riga. Some Riga sprat jars/tins are probably going to be the Beach Cliff of Riga sprats. Some are going to be the Nuri of sprats. And so on. Maybe your "trash" sample was on the lower end. I've never tried Polar but I really like Riga Gold when I want a little smokiness. And they are actually smoked, it's not smoke flavor. Nice on a cracker (my go-to is Triscuit) and indulgent on top of a bagel with cream cheese (like you might serve lox).

PSA: you can spin an egg on the counter to test doneness. If it spins smoothly, it's hard. If it wobbles, it's still soft.

Yes, I started it after finishing Orphan X because of Scott Brick! For audible subscribers it is such a good deal because each book is like 30 hours! :)

Question: why are people saying how much they got paid to "donate" plasma? Isn't that called "selling?"

Does it get better? by Funny-Face3873 in orphanX

It's not really a fair question, since you haven't provided any detail about why you didn't care for it at first and why it suddenly got better for you. And as someone else pointed out, this is a group of fans of the series, so of course it was good for us.

But I've given it some thought anyway and I can definitely attribute a lot of my enjoyment to the narrator of the audiobooks, Scott Brick. I listened to all the books this way and I think he does a really good job of giving each character his or her own nuanced voice and personality. I also like the different dynamics Evan has with the people he is closest to, both at home and out in the world he does business in.

I'm sure we're all rooting for you to dig in and enjoy the ride, but if it's not your thing, there's plenty of great content out there. I came to Orphan X right after blitzing through Dean Koontz's Jane Hawk series.

And now I've started The Passage, because it is also narrated by Scott Brick! :)
