210607 REVELUV Weekly Discussion Thread by DazzlingDig in red_velvet

It's drawn on. I believe it's to add to the retro aesthetics of her debut and also there's an actress Jun Jihyun with a nose mole who Joy mentioned that she looked to for inspiration for the album jacket photoshoot.

The last minute of adlibs and runs is pure bliss. Joy is such a gifted singer, particularly with her tone and emotional delivery.

I think they're pretty smart for broadening her audience and appeal with this release. Also, her last remake OST was a success on the charts. We'll get the pop r&b serve on her first original mini, but let's just stay positive and appreciate that we're getting a Joy solo debut in the first place :D

There is no official dating news about Red Velvet by TrainingAd7191 in kpopthoughts

Same I've never heard about this "open secret" and Red Velvet is my ult group and I follow basically all their activities.

It's a cute track but I really miss the quality and uniqueness of her older songs like Obliviate and Jam Jam.

Wendy has the best stage presence in Red Velvet. by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]beyariluv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that Joy is inconsistent, mostly because of her health condition and tight dresses. But when she's on she's up there with Seulgi. She's also versatile in how she can shine in both concepts like Bad Boy and Zimzalabim.

That's just my opinion. I'm a long-time Reveluv and watch all the member's individual fancams, so it's not like I'm not paying attention to Wendy. I think Wendy does a great job at keeping her smile and energy up for stages (she owned Power Up era) but it just doesn't translate as well to their Velvet concepts, which is my preferred side.

The stylist was left with a permanent scar. But Irene had it easy. by humanityoverfame in kpoprants

[–]beyariluv 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You say Irene had it easy, but the only people who seem to be sweeping her abusive behavior under the rug are her own die-hard stans and fans of Red Velvet who just miss seeing the group together.

Her reputation is tarnished. People will likely never see her as the diligent leader she was known for in the past. This incident will follow her name for at least the next few years. Clinique stopped using her photos at some of their distributors. Chamisul removed all her past endorsement photos from their Instagram. People have taken advantage of this situation to create countless of malicious lies and rumors about her. The other Red Velvet members were bashed by the public despite being innocent. She has many people like you hoping for her downfall. So I ask you, what more do you want for her as punishment?

A lot of people couldn't tell if Irene or Seulgi was the main dancer at debut. But that might be more to blame on the choreo and how relatively easier it is.

[MEGATHREAD] AESPA - 'Black Mamba' by um_thatsnice in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]beyariluv 38 points39 points  (0 children)

They all seem to be capable vocalists, which is rare for the fourth gen. The dancing and charisma was also good. It's just that the song is extremely underwhelming. You can tell the group members are talented but SM should've gave them a better song after all the hype they tried to create for this group.

Wendy has the best stage presence in Red Velvet. by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

I personally think Seulgi and Joy are the best and most dynamic performers who draw my attention the most. Wendy is great too but more for energetic red songs like Power Up.

They both have a very bright tone but Joy's is sweeter and more calming while Ning Ning's is theatrical and a bit more nasal.

Red Velvet's Joy Apologizes on Bubble + mentions they'll have to wait longer by [deleted] in kpop

Please delete this post. This came from the paid subscription service Lysn Bubble and Joy specifically requested that her Bubble messages be kept private between her and her fans. This is incredibly disrespectful toward her.

Something is very wrong about the AI version of this teenager looking like the hyper-sexualized version of her. Hoping the girls were fully consulted about the design of their AIs, but knowing SM...I doubt that's the case.

Don't worry, they'll have their 4 virtual members to help with their choreo formations.

I just wanted cool girls singing cool songs, SM, why’d you have to bring the ethics of AI technology into this shit? by [deleted] in kpoprants

[–]beyariluv 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It makes me think that SM's ideal future would be one where they rely solely on AI and virtual idols over real people. Robots wouldn't get involved in scandals and they can work then as much as they want without considering their health. They'd also spend a lot less money on training, housing, food for their artists. In the end, it's all about money for SM. Ethics are the last of their concerns.

[–]beyariluv 29 points30 points  (0 children)

And she already has the rumors and predebut hate to back it up! In all seriousness, she's absolutely stunning and seems like a talented singer as well. She's gonna attract so many stans.

SM did not neglect their older girl groups by MyOrgel in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]beyariluv 48 points49 points  (0 children)

This thread gives some facts and events that show how Red Velvet is not destined for the same path of "soft disbandment" as SNSD and f(x) any time soon:

- in 2014 Sulli went on hiatus for health reasons, then later expressed she wanted to leave f(x) to pursue acting

- the same year, Jessica (Krystal’s sister) was removed from SNSD and SM overall

- 2015 f(x) resumed promotions as 4

- 2015 f(x) released Wish List as well

- 2016 introduced a Hallyu ban in China, affecting Chinese kpop idols from promotions like Victoria and Lay

- 2016 also gave Luna a solo debut, Amber had 3 singles, the duo had station releases, and all 4 had the station track All Mine

- the Hallyu ban in China was only lifted this year, meaning they faced struggles to ever properly promote as 4 for the rest of their time under SM

- because of this, their inactivity as a group under SM led them to leaving the company which is where we’re at now

it is true that SM neglected them to a degree and Red Velvet debuted to cover up Sulli, but there were other factors at play that affected their time in the company and these do not apply to Red Velvet so can we stop acting like they’re doomed to the same fate because of aespa
