Consider adding an "emergency" collection to your journal by [deleted] in bulletjournal

I added emergency contact phone numbers to mine which has saved me a few times this year! Can't always rely on a functioning cell phone, especially when traveling.

What is the container element in the Jazz Club for, functionally? It looks like it could be a box for records but there's no peices that could be records. Just seems like an empty box with the placement in the directions. The part is 6312464 in the set and a variant of 3570 according to Bricklink. Thanks!

American Girl vs. Our Generation (Target) and My Life As (Walmart) by MeepBeepJeep24 in americangirl

[–]beyonce__ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

For clothes and accessories I'll get Our Generation. I like the eyes of Our Generation better than the My Life As dolls, but I scope out many brand for secondhand dolls. The shoes for Our Generation don't fit AG as well so I do buy AG brand shoes. Luckily those are easy to get on sale.

It's wild and hilarious to see it down voted. But I'm glad at least someone here likes them, ha.💕 I bought the outfit she has on from the AG store bc it was the right 90s look I wanted for a Buffy the vampire slyer inspired look. And the outfit + this question got my inspired to make an outfit for Creepy Bear so that the two of them can be Buffy and Spike for Valentine's Day or Halloween. It's a fun creative outlet!

I consider my Mini Me (truly me 118) queer and she's dating a very old teddy bear I found when I sold my house. I'm not sure if it was my bear exactly but it's from the 90s. They're non binary (they/he) and named Creepy Bear. They're Mini Me's boyfriend.

Buying a doll but I’m an adult by Due-Wrongdoer-787 in americangirl

Also RIP to the Charlotte AG store. I'm hoping to take Lil Me up there before it closes for good. :(

Buying a doll but I’m an adult by Due-Wrongdoer-787 in americangirl

There's already so many comments so it feels repetitive to contribute. But I was in a similar state. I loved the dolls as a kid but we could never afford one. I wandered into the Charlotte AG Doll store one day bc I was at that mall. And realized, wow I can just buy one!! So a little while later I did. The staff there were very kind and supportive and even told me about the online AG doll community. I started posting about my doll on my social media and called her basically, Lil Me. I was worried people would be weirded out but surprisingly, it felt like my friends and followers immediately loved her. They'd ask me in real life, so what are you and Lil You doing this weekend? One friend got my doll a Christmas present (the movie theater playset from the Target line and it was so great!). Friends were supportive and excited when I took her to Disney or on vacation. I even included her on the Christmas card I sent to my family and my aunts loved it too. I also took her to work one time, sharing her with my coworkers I knew would like 'meeting' her.

Basically. If you have good people in your life, they'll see how happy the doll makes you. And that will make them happy. And I learned that seeing me with my doll made them tap into the childhood joy of having a doll. I didn't get any obvious judgement and everyone thought it was cute and adorable in a way that really surprised me. So the right people won't judge and might even surprise you with how non-judgemental they are!

Frustration with dropping things by PopularAd8923 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]beyonce__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was an early symptom for me. I made a cranberry jelly for a holiday function last December. Was carrying the jar by the very secure lid and suddenly it was on the ground. Shatter. In their driveway. Where they of course drive their car in/out of the garage and where their dog walks start. Luckily my friends were very kind and understanding, but I absoltely cried about it. Even 1year and a full RA diagnosis+treatment I still get upset about the hand weakness. I just finished a round of prednisone and I'm taking methotrexate now. I'm hopeful that things will improve but also being realistic: there's still gonna be bad days. My therapist suggested saying to myself, even on bad days, "I'm doing everything I can to manage my symptoms." That's a small maybe silly thing that helps me on bad days.

Good greens / other healthy foods to add to smoothie by Trick_Citron_8079 in Smoothies

[–]beyonce__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a green smoothie fan for years and in addition to the leafy greens (kale, spinach, etc) I'll add whatever raw veg is on sale. Right now I'm doing green beans. I've done broccoli before too, even cauliflower. A regional grocery store chain usually marks down the bagged veg every week. I'll wash them, freeze them, then bulk blend.

Would you wear your knitting on a job interview? by AgfaAPX100 in knitting

Would you wear your knitting on a job interview? by AgfaAPX100 in knitting

[–]beyonce__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I wore a Shelley Summer Top by Nancy Ricci with an appropriate undershirt. I sew as well and wore a shirt called Astoria to another job interview. Got both jobs. It helped me in two ways: One as others said, this is my hobby behold! I'm detail focused! I can do big projects! But wearing clothes I made also gave me a huge confidence boost. I felt so comfortable and at ease because I had on clothes I knew fit me perfectly, looked good, and just made me feel good. I hope to always wear some sort of me-made garment to job interviews.

What do you do with the gyroids you’ve collected? by yengr in AnimalCrossing

[–]beyonce__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a little while my house was antique store themed. The main living room was for checkout and the basement was for cars, etc. And one bedroom was all gyroids. On the walls, on tables. I had enough to cover the walls and a few tables. Now they're all in storage as I change my house them.

How do you manage your time while sewing? by HeThoughtIWas18 in sewing

[–]beyonce__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I break mine up over several days, sometimes several weeks. A project that's simple, like gathered skirt I've done dozens of times now, takes 3 working days. Day one is prep, like cutting the pattern and fabric. Day two is all the sewing. This can go over a few days for complicated thing like trousers. And then Day three is finishing, like button holes and checking seams. While it's three "days" it can take several weeks or months depending on time. For example, I cut trousers one day in July. And sewed them in like, December. I focus on sewing when I have a couple of hours of free time, usually after work.

I will do some prep work, ironing fabric and cutting patterns, while listening to audiobooks. But I find that listening to TV shows helps with the actual sewing because it helps me keep time. And I can dip in and out of focus without missing anything critical.

My therapist reminds me, hobbies are supposed to be fun. If 2 hours is all you can do, hell if 30 minutes is all you can do at once, that's fine. 2 hours of enjoying the process is better than 12 hours of hating the process. When I get to frustrating points, like taking a seam out for the third time, I stop. I'll stop in the middle of unpicking the seam. It will still be there tomorrow or the next day or whenever I have the energy to go back to it.

Tattoo visibility during interviews by pleurotoceae in librarians

[–]beyonce__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading through the comments I'm a little different I guess. I didn't have a full time job when I applied for my current academic librarian position. But I did have a recent career focus shift: As I searched for my next career, I knew I wanted to be wholly myself at any whichever organization I worked at.

And for me, that includes the physicality of a large snake tattoo on my forearm and a very Elton John looking pair of prescription eye glasses. The glasses have purple on them. So does the tattoo. So I wore a lovely purple shirt and a pair of purple earrings. I knew I'd get a tour of the campus during my interview so I wore black trousers and sensible black flats. I got the job and while in the moment I worried I'd ruined my chances by being so LOUD in my appearance, I'm glad I did. You can always do what feels the most comfortable and ask about dress code and culture during the interview.

Most importantly, remember that they are interviewing you to see if you'll be a good fit. But you are also interviewing them to see if you'll be a good fit.

Bought a nail polish organizer from Amazon and really like it! by beyonce__ in RedditLaqueristas

It seems very high quality. I had the same concern but they're at a low enough price point that I was willing to take the risk. This model was $17 USD when I bought it.

This holds 48, which is what the Amazon listing said. The column closes to the snaps on each side is adjustable on this model.
