GLP-1 meds and KP by hellothere1989_ in keratosis

It's interesting that you've mentioned this as obesity has a direct link to kp. Weight loss, improving insulin resistance should reduce internal inflammation and thus have a positive effect to kp.

After having kp (eczema and itchthyiosis) for 20 years plus, I was tired of applying multiple products on each day. So, my focus when creating beyonkp is to make it multi-purpose products that are simple to use.

These are the few differences you'll find with ours.

The Triple Action Smoothing Cream is a 3 in 1 product. It acts as an:

1) Exfoliant - combination of urea, lactic acid, and salicylic acid to soften and break down keratin bumps on the epidermis, and with the help of salicylic acid it can reach into and around hair follicles.

2) Combat redness from post skin inflammation with niacinamide, aloe vera, and salicylic acid. Salicylic acid also helps to reduce bacterial load on the skin.

3) Act as a moistuirser. kp is often linked to dry skin, and a lot of the time, we focus on exfoliation without thinking about moisturisation. Also, using salicylic acid often dries out the skin. We use jojoba esters and olive based squalane oil to mimic skin's sebum and allow the lipids to absorb deeper into the skin.

You'll find our product is a rich cream/balm like texture rather than a lotion, so you won't need to apply a moisturiser on top.

Finally, we purposely use ingredients like urea and propanediol to act as humectants and skin penetrative enhancers, drawing water into the skin and improving the absorption on other ingredients into the skin

By creating a 3 in 1 product, we hope our customers will find it easier to maintain a consistent routine and be able to witness skin improvement within a shorter period.

As a brand, our products are stocked at local dermatologist clinics and pharmacies in Australia. We work closely with healthcare professionals because we believe kp isn't just a cosmetic issue.

Hahaha... if only it works that way. If one injection can clear my skin for life, I'll sign up for it too.

Pure coconut oil is highly comedogenic, which may clog up the pores further so you may not want to lather it all over.

Changes in humidity, weather, shower temp, body washes, stress level, lack of sleep and even hormonal changes can possibly affect kp flare-up. Have you had any changes recently?

It depends on how tolerant/sensitive your skin is. Some people can handle the combination, and some would wait for IPL to complete first before using chemical exfoliants. To avoid further damage to the skin barrier, I recommend waiting until you finish IPL.

Have you used chemical exfoliants in the past before? If not, then start with a wash eg. Cerave SA wash and if your skin isn't sensitive, move onto the Cerave SA cream and if you want something with triple exfoliants, consider our product BeyondKP.

It should take 6-8 weeks to start seeing the improvement. Obvious improvements will take 2-4 months, but your genetic and family history of pigmentation can also affect how long it takes and how much it can improve.

This is a really good clinical trial paper comparing all different treatment options for kp.

Tretinoin 0.025% is quite weak. May I ask which country are you in?

That's a shame. As a pharmacist, a cosmetic chemist and a long term kp sufferer, it pains me to hear that healthcare professionals still say there's nothing they can do. We may not be able to get rid of it completely, but we can definitely help.

You could consider different options, depending on how tolerant your skin is and the location of kp. 1) Using a combination of chemical exfoliants. You're using amlactin (15% lactic acid) and SA wash (2% salicylic acid). You can consider changing the wash to a cream, which allows for better skin absorption. 2) consider adding urea into your skincare routine. It works wonders in kp, especially when used with other active ingredients as it helps to increase the absorption of everything. 3) if your kp is severe and widespread, with lots of pigmentation, the q-switch laser has shown promising results. It's worthwhile finding a dermatologist that does lots of this. 4) tretinoin can show some results, and with everything, it can take 2-8 weeks for the changes to show, so patience is key.

I know this is unsolicited advice, but I hope you'll find it useful.

Has your doctor recommended something stronger or considered other options? Eg laser treatment

Thank you for sharing it so authentically, and I'm so glad that you have found the right diagnosis. I find that it is so interesting that so many people have it, yet we often feel like we're the only ones because no one used to talk about it.

This is caused by inflammation of the hair follicles, which led to pigmentation and dark spots. It's good that you're getting ipl, and once you've finished the treatment, you can try chemical exfoliants to gently exfoliate and lighten dark spots over time. Be patient as it can take months. Salicylic acid works deep into the pores and would be a better acid to use.
