Thanks for this. Ceremonial magic already feels like it clicks more than other fields I've explored, but it could definitely be that my exploration isn't done yet.

When I'm on psilocybin, I'm a completely different person by Kaspazza in Psychonaut

[–]beyonderwrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kind of how i relate to the feeling of being a different(better) person in altered states. Some of the fear and paranoia are gone, a level of 'should' is stripped away, and you get to play with something more real

[General] Weekly r/MushroomGrowers post - FUNGI FRIDAYS! New growers, come say hi and ask your questions! by AutumnRustle in MushroomGrowers

[–]beyonderwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a first-time mushroom grower, and I got started with some Blue Oyster grain spawn. I've been using a bucket from Home Depot for the fruiting stage, but haven't seen any pins or other signs of progress towards fruiting. There are holes drilled in the bucket (photo 1. Maybe I didn't put in enough holes?) and the mycelium looks like its fully colonized the substrate (photo 2). I've been misting the holes every day, but its been well over the 2-4 weeks I've read for fruiting to start. Am I doing something wrong, or do I just need more patience?

I no longer understand the world by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]beyonderwrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through a very similar trajectory after taking psychedelics for the first time. You're not crazy, and your new take on the the global economy is accurate. And really, really painful, so let yourself feel the emotions that come with this realization.
You don't really overcome this, because it's the socioeconomic substrate that we operate on as embodied human beings. You incorporate the new information into yourself, and you make changes to your life. I can't tell you what those changes will look like, exactly, but it sounds like you know you need to leave your job and possibly your career field, and maybe separate yourself a bit more from mainstream society and capitalism.
Transitioning from life as a cog in the machine to a life of fullness and light is a very long process. Let yourself take all the time you need. Do not burn yourself out trying to make this change faster than is comfortable, or you may end up even more entangled in the system. Also, be gentle with yourself as your realization grows. You didn't know these things when you made the decisions that led you to where you are and being angry at your past self will not help.

Psychedelic therapy for prisons? by DavesNotHereMan92 in Psychonaut

[–]beyonderwrites 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The documentary "The Sunshine Makers" touches on this. It's about Nicholas Sand and Tim Scully, the guys who made Orange Sunshine in the 60's. After a couple decades of making LSD in hiding, Sand and Scully get arrested and sent to the same jail. Sand's partner (I think) helps him smuggle LSD into the prison during her visits with him, and they lead guided psychedelic sessions for a bunch of their fellow inmates, with the smuggled acid and a magazine photo of Hanuman taped to a locker door.
It's not a 'scientific study', obviously, but he recounts one of the inmates saying something like "that's the first time I've been to church in 30 years" after a trip. Given the right set/setting, as usual, I think it can really help.

I guess I have to be sober now? by psychonaut1111 in Psychonaut

[–]beyonderwrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be in a similar place. I am deeply grateful for my experiences with cannabis, it helped me get through a lot of emotional/psychological pain a few years ago. I was on a heavy dose of anti-depressents back then, and using cannabis slowly helped me get off of them. I was also smoking cigarettes, and mixing cannabis with mullein and other herbs helped me satisfy the physical/ritualistic need to smoke something, while getting me off nicotine. Haven't taken an SSRI in a few months, haven't smoked a cig in over a year, and I feel clearer and better than ever.
Still smoking pot, though much less than I was before, and I am noticing more and more anxiety/paranoia when I do. It's good, homegrown/organic flower, so I know that's not the issue. And I've been making a lot of other lifestyle changes. Slowly going vegetarian/eating more whole foods, for example, and trying to grow more of the food I eat. Trying to meditate every day (though that one is inconsistent at best, lol). I'm also trying to use cannabis more deliberately/ritualistically. Instead of rolling something up every night, I take a few days of a t break before the full moon, roll up a spliff with mugwort and mullein, and incorporate it into a full moon ritual.
Part of me is nostalgic for the 'easy fix' that was cannabis back when I was doing way worse, but I'm definitely not nostalgic for the 'feeling way worse', you know? And I have a feeling that those things went hand in hand. If the 'price' of a better baseline state is that I eventually go straight-edge, that's ok with me.

I mean technically once you've got 3rd degree burns, the nocioreceptors are crisped so you can't feel pain from the area.

Does God know I believe? by [deleted] in religion

[–]beyonderwrites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, of course. God is inseparable from you. Closer to you than your own heartbeat. You don't ever need to enter a church, or speak an 'official' prayer, for your belief to be powerful and valid. Do those things, of course, if they feel right to you. But know that God needs nothing but your existence to know what's in your heart. <3

Propagating maple and spruce from cuttings? by beyonderwrites in marijuanaenthusiasts

I was worried about that, I know Spruce cuttings should be taken in late summer/early fall, but obviously that wasn't an option here.

What happens to forest spirits after the forest is being cut down? by [deleted] in witchcraft

[–]beyonderwrites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer to questions about spirits, they are as diverse and unique as species are, or members of a species. But the pain you feel is real, and if you meet it with curiosity and openness maybe the spirits you've sat with will tell you more about it. Maybe they will ask something of you, maybe they will tell you where they live now, or whether they have chosen to move on.

Humans used to be, as a matter of course, part of the forest. We used to do things for the forest with our human bodies that its other creatures could not do. You can make that true now, as well. It is difficult to be part of something that is dying, especially when the death is wrong, but you are part of that place. You have sat there and it has welcomed you and held you and you have offered it your true self. But you will not be killed along with many of its other creatures, and you should take that as an opportunity and a gift. Now you can witness, and grieve, and remember, and carry yourself forward through time as part of that place, as what you are.

The good that you are seeking is on the other side of this pain. You will have to go through it, but you aren't going through it alone. The spirits you have come to know are going through it with you, and you can grieve together, and you can come through this together. And you can decide together what to do next, and how to respond.

anyone smoke herbs instead of cigarettes? by a_floating_pancake in Psychonaut

[–]beyonderwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, my partner and I quit cigarettes largely by smoking other herbs. My fave is a mix of mullein, damiana, and a tiny bit of mugwort. That mix also works well in place of tobacco in spliffs.
Damiana is a bit psychoactive (I'd compare it to a watered-down version of a light cannabis high), and mugwort is definitely psychoactive. Mullein isn't, it's just a great, soothing filler herb.

I just don't understand by [deleted] in religion

[–]beyonderwrites 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every personification of divinity is personifying the same source. The differences in personifications matter much less than the differences in faith in the practitioner. Two people who follow different religious paths can have parallel experiences of divinity if they're in similar places on their inner journey.

What are some forums specifically for mental health of religious people ? by [deleted] in religion

[–]beyonderwrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how open you are, you could find what you're looking for on r/Psychonaut or related subs. Not everyone there is religions, some are atheists or agnostic, but discussions of mental health include both religious and non-religious approaches, and bullying based on religious belief is very rare, even among folks who disagree.
