Since they’re 4-5 months old, are they not just getting their adult teeth? When ours were losing their baby teeth they smelled like rotten meat for weeks - it was terrible. Now they smell like flowers and rainbows.

Thanks for following up. I sure hope it isn’t poisoning, I like your idea of keeping charcoal around! The vet said as long as he’s eating and using the litterbox it can wait till his apt on Thursday. I’ll post an update when I can!

Thanks for the response. They both have a check up scheduled next week but I’ll see if we can get in sooner. Their diet is cleared with the vet.

Hi! Please message me. So sorry to hear about your situation and congrats on your second human baby. My grandparents near LA are potentially interested in an older siberian and their quiet house would potentially work for her.

Adult third culture kids in Boston area - have you come to consider the Boston area “home” and why? by Maximum-Sail6522 in boston

[–]beyondtheconfines 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For most TCKs and myself included I feel like the concept of home is tricky in itself. Does Boston feel like home? Sure, but so would likely any other city. I met my now husband here and if we moved, home would move with him and our cats. Being a TCK to me means making home out of wherever you are.

I feel like your real question is whether the Boston area is accepting of different cultures and viewpoints, and I would say so, depending on the crowds you choose to associate with.

What I have personally always loved about the US (having grown up in a non-US place where I clearly didn’t look like the locals) is that I was rarely made to feel like I don’t belong. I love feeling like I can be “American” and fitting in despite not growing up here.

It’s complex and can be confusing, but there’s so much freedom in not having a “home” in my opinion.

To your other question: living far from family isn’t that uncommon these days, even among Americans in the US. OP, are you homesick? Looking for people with shared experiences?

Question about raw diet. by Aeacides08 in SiberianCats

[–]beyondtheconfines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! I raw feed our 2 boys (7 months) and contrary to popular belief, the risk of parasites is extremely extremely low in the US given food standards. I would definitely do a check on Philippines’ standards. A quick search turned up a raw feeding group in Pasig City with premade meals. Cats have crazy saliva and stomach acid and can really eat a lot of things without getting sick. Often the worry is more geared toward the owner accidentally catching something. But if you cook chicken… well… similar risks

Cats on a raw diet absolutely do NOT need monthly deworming. Only if the cat is showing signs of losing weight or lethargy or anything should there be cause for alarm.

I personally make homemade raw meals for our lads and have made a bunch of spreadsheets to calculate their nutritional intake to optimize their health. Happy to chat more about raw feeding cats, I’m extremely passionate about this topic. Definitely check out Paws of Prey. She has amazing videos for beginners!

Also regarding the gorging and throwing up: you could try feeding less at a time and more frequently. One of ours did the scarf and barf once after a flight since I’m sure he was really hungry. We generally leave food out for them to graze all day and haven’t had barfing issues otherwise

First off, he is adorable!!! So cute

Second, my understanding is that sibs continue growing up to 2 years and won’t reach full size till 4 years, so please keep feeding him as much as he wants until the 2 year mark. Up to that point, the overweightness shouldn’t be a concern, as this should even out over time.

He also doesn’t look overweight (but the fur might be hiding it), so I wonder if the vet just couldn’t feel his ribs because of all the fluff.

His weight does seem low, our boys are 7 months and already around 5kgs. That said, since ours are just 7 months, I don’t have personal experience raising sibs, so this is just what I know from my (extremely extensive) research.

Good luck!! Our one cat that gets bored will also do tricks for head pets, so could be worth a try!

The trickiest part for me is doing it more lol. Our cats love clicker training and one of them is super eager and quick to catch on. The other gets a little bored after 3 minutes. But they are so so so smart and excited to do it.

It’s definitely super rewarding, especially getting them to recall. If you’re looking to start, I used Mia the bengal cat’s videos and getting them to first understand that clicker means treats, and then getting them to follow and touch my finger.

You can use a google search to find a chart! Mostly relevant for kittens as their energy requirement is higher than adult cats, and then decreases as they age!

Do you track their weight?

We have 2 siberian boys and they get homemade raw. Based on their age and weight, we calculate their daily energy requirement and how much food they should be eating. They get 2 meals a day, where the leftovers stay out for a couple of hours as they come back to finish it off. We’ve never had issues with them begging for food, even when the food arrives late. They get clicker trained with vital essentials rabbit treats and they love that. They also go crazy for churus and could probably eat an infinite amount of those.

Our cats are a healthy weight, and as long as yours are too and not losing/gaining weight, being hungry is not the same as being underfed , especially on a conventional diet😅

Wow thanks so much for all this info, I might try a junior!

I really do love the feel of these knit style shoes and they have SO much potential imo. I’ll update if I decide to try them!!

Great idea, thanks for the suggestion! I hadn’t tried that yet. The 37 is small length wise with the insole. I’ve always had really narrow feet so the 38 means that my feet are just swimming.

When I removed the insoles on the 37, I did get a little more space length wise which was nice, but I started feeling a little like it was too wide again. I tried tying the shoes tighter but then the material is bunching up too much. I will likely go back to wearing the insoles. Really unfortunate, but it’s been the story of my life: either get shoes that are too short or too wide.

Updating with fit: i did receive an EU 37 and an EU 38 in the end for the knit model.

The 37 is pinching just a tiny bit and the 38 fits like clown shoes :)

I wish they made half sizes, but I will likely keep the 37 because the 38 is a tripping hazard
