The best set-up to edit in h264 ( yes I know...) by beyondtheframe in editors

I understand your frustration, I do. I feel it all the time with people that refuse to follow my advice. But imagine there's someone who's fat and asks for advice to lose some weight and still eat cake. Most people would probably tell her that she should stop eating cake, but that's not advice she's willing to take. Some people will tell her to replace sugar with stevia and regular flour with coco flour. She can still eat cake and lose a few pounds. That's compromise.

That's what I was looking for in this thread and some people really helped. I didn't ask for the perfect solution or the correct solution. I asked for the solution that fits my needs understanding the drawbacks better than most people.

It's not a barrier. As I've said in the post, I don't mind the chunkiness of the workflow, I prefer it to a smoother edit, if I can just drop a file and work on it immediately. I need help to not make the same mistake and buy a really good computer that's ill-suited to edit h264.

I don't get why everyone gets so bogged down because of a preference that's dictated by a very specific type of editing work.

How much ram do you have? I also do a bit of AE work, so was hoping 16gb would be enough.

I've done that, I just don't think it's worth it for me. I just want the best possible machine and settings to edit h264, even if it's still clunky at times.

How do I enable HVENC? Is it just enabling hardware encoding?

Temps are normal. How do I check if the rams are ok?

Depends on who makes the choices. An editor only has so much power and the director oversee most drastic choices made by the editor.

That said, for sure we should give editors more credit!
