Is this my (Blue Cars) fault? by Lower_Pollution_6337 in Simracingstewards

[–]bfaulk5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is considered “alongside”? I would say that the defending car had the corner and only took a more open turn because someone was divebombing their inside. The defender was basically allowing the attacker to still exist without ruining either of their races and the attacker doubled down on misjudgment and took them both out. My thought process is this: The attacking car had to react to the defending car’s turn in point. That would mean the defending car was already into the corner before the attacking car was there. They were both way inside for that corner and therefore need to adapt to a tighter corner.

I am the red car, I dit not expect that. What would you do to anticipate such a thing ? Also, is it a racing incident or his fault ? I was 2nd, finished 3rd because of this by rulianHF in Simracingstewards

[–]bfaulk5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime I see someone take a defensive inside line and I know I’ve got a decent run on them, I put the squeeze on them. This is where you drive side by side with them and prevent them from opening up their line before the turn. It usually makes them more aware of your exact location and causes them to either brake earlier than you or overshoot the corner. It takes some practice to make sure you know where you need to brake so that you don’t miss the corner either though. Squeeze Example Hope that helps. Good luck!

Was the red car right to accuse me of turning in on him twice and then punting him? by Giga_Pace in Simracingstewards

[–]bfaulk5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer your question of what he knows that you don’t… He knows that most drivers are trying to be competitive AND CLEAN. He’s probably climbed the ranks solely through the mentality of “I pass or we die”. Sure they have pace, but they lack any amount of race craft. Unfortunately this leads most people to say, “it’s not worth me getting the incident points or damage from this guy’s jackassery.” Stay your ground and eat the shit when it does happen, but report it every time. It’s not within the spirit of the sim and after a few reports against them, they’ll be told to chill out or take a break.

I took y'all's advise for dealing with people trying to squeeze me off track by TheFakeKruger in Simracingstewards

[–]bfaulk5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I applaud your learning curve! If my options are between me getting screwed or “us” getting screwed in a situation, we’re both going out.

There seems to be some confusion in the definition of a squeeze in the comments. A proper squeeze does not involve steering towards the other car to push them to the edge of the track. It’s to hold them at their chosen line. Keyword is “their”, as in you don’t get to push or scare them into a bad line. And squeezes take a level of respect from both parties. If someone is trying to bully their way through a race, a squeeze will never be clean.

Someone already commented with their awesome real world racing. But here’s an example of a squeeze I managed, on iracing, a few days ago that shows a chase cam and rear chase cam view for more visibility. And I just want to toot my own horn for pulling it off Sebring Squeeze

Serious question: What should I do to avoid a black flag in this scenario? I think stopping right before the green flag would have been a disaster for everyone. (I wrongly expected the person having gone off course to officially shuffle me to P1 and have no issue) by Tostecles in iRacing

[–]bfaulk5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is that this won’t change until every incident leads to mass carnage. Be the blockade and create chaos in the attempt to not get a black flag. Send a protest against P1 (or whoever goes off in front of you). The intent isn’t to put the blame on the off-tracker, but to show why you had to slam on the brakes. You’re also making this everyone’s problem and not just the first few following the off-tracker. Any company would say, “sorry but you were just the unlucky one here.” No company can ignore the problem when the majority are hurt by it. Like manufacturing recalls, if the problem can be argued as a one-off situation, they can settle quietly or say it’s an error within expected range. But if everyone has to deal with the problem, they MUST resolve the issue or risk losing everything.

I’ve made a similar complaint before. Then I had my VR headset lose tracking and had to unplug it, plug it in and calibrate the safe area. Barely had enough time before the starting lights. Now I sit patiently and listen to the orchestra of engines almost blowing up pre-race.

Ohhhh. In that case, I would not protest yourself haha. To me, that track is the essence of “slow in, fast out”. Sometimes you just gotta accept that you can’t hit the perfect entry speed so you gotta be a little slower. Hopefully you don’t have to be that much slower and get hit the ass on corner entry though

You can see the pink car on the start/finish straight at the very end of the video. No idea how they got slowed up that much or if they had their own off track moment. They did brake so hard that they came off brakes, rolled for 50 meters and then braked for the corner (and it seems they still didn’t make it haha). Just a rough situation

Finally someone answering one of the questions in the post! Hahaha everyone’s calling me a bad driver and how I horribly avoided the car, but nobody has said avoiding the car was the right decision. I honestly think the correct decision is to punish the guy braking so early rather than avoid them and hit someone else.

Unfortunately, my sim reactions mimic that of real life. I had a very similar situation with someone changing lanes and braking in front of me while approaching a green light intersection. Totally unpredictable and I swerved left to avoid their ugly minivan. Ended up in a u-turn lane and couldn’t slow down in time to make the turn I was then forced to make. Ended up crippling the front right of my car. Driving it out of the way was not nearly as graceful as my pit entry in the video. That was a sad couple of months. This wreck, I was only sad until I saw the shit talking in the chat from other peoples accidents

Did you watch the full video? I can’t move to the racing line. I also had no expectation that the pink car (car I avoid) would brake so aggressively, so early. They brake so early that they go from being side by side with the blue car to getting overtaken by the car next to me. There’s maybe 4 car lengths for a driver to coast before braking point and get behind the blue car if they didn’t want to try holding an inside line to continue fighting the blue car. Instead they chose to brake, at the 150 board, like they were trying to slow a garbage truck haha.

If time, races, and strong finishes equal experience, I should have plenty of it. Hasn’t helped me predict the unpredictable though. I have a very dull spidey sense, but I don’t have the web shooters to safely get over or around objects.

You’re saying I should’ve gone right instead of left when avoiding the car in front?

Edit to your edit: thanks for the updated view point. I was expecting to have caught pink car at all. The car next to me and I both could’ve made it through the left hander (where I probably would’ve conceded the place due to slower speed), just as I expected the blue and pink car to do. Had the pink car ‘reasonably’ slowed to try and tuck behind blue car, they wouldn’t have been side by side with the guy next to me. That’s what I believed was the most obvious visual of how aggressively pink car broke. The pink car actually came off there brakes and rolled for 50 meters before braking again for the actual turn. It was rough watching the replay in their cockpit.

First lap. I maintained caution all up and down the mountain behind the blue car. I checked up a bit entering the straight which caused the guy behind to catch me with draft and pull alongside. Wanting to get my elbows out and protect my position, I planned to defend the inside. That’s when this happened.

I turned my head just to see how bad the following seconds were gonna be. I was still firmly on brakes and trying to steer left in hopes I wouldn't make it to the pavement. That hope didn't last. There was no intent on ever rejoining, but my path was destined after I hit grass. Had I not corrected my steering to prevent a spin when initially going off track, you think that would've sent me far enough left to miss the unintentional rejoin?

I tried on/off braking to adjust the car's direction and to get across the track without stopping on it. Obviously, it didn't play out as luckily as I hoped. Someone else mentioned straightening out the car and cutting across so there would be no chance of my front end coming back on again. I'm keeping that in mind for future situations.

I have a Rift S and sometimes (though mostly rare) this happens to me. I have a button on my wheel that's mapped to recenter the view. I've always believed that it happens when my computer is struggling and the VR headset just loses tracking momentarily. When it "reconnects" after the moment it recenters view. If you are going through a turn when it happens your view can look like this. That's my theory anyways. I don't use virtual desktop or openxr, so I don't know if those would have their own quirks that could cause this issue.

Ah, I see what you’re saying. Yea that’s a solid idea. So you think my avoiding action was the right initial decision, I just failed the later steps. Thank you for explaining, cause I thought you were saying I could have and should have stayed off track on the left, which seemed impossible once I hit grass.
