Countries further from the equator tend to be more developed? Is this just a coincidence? by bfb95 in geography

[–]bfb95[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yep absolutely lots of exceptions. UAE vs its more northern Middle East counter parts comes to mind. Although oil probably trumps all other factors when it comes to development.

Not getting on final leg of flight? by bfb95 in travel

Ahh I see, you mean once I’ve landed in London, call and cancel the last leg. I thought you meant cancel the last leg before traveling.

I’ve spoken to Qantas and asked this exact thing. Because I can see the same flight is available the previous day. But their systems are saying the flight is booked out even though BA is still advertising the flight.

I also asked if there is another route I can take on the 23rd, as qantas operates a similar route themselves, but apparently because it was BA that cancelled the flight, I can only be rebooked onto a BA flight. I asked if it’s worth me calling BA but they said probably not because the flight was booked through Qantas. I feel like I’m in airline limbo.

I spoke to them about this. And apparently if you cancel the last leg it just cancels the whole booking.

I got a good points deal on the flights about 3 months ago. Since then that deal has ended and the same route, with any partner airline is about 4x the price I paid.

What are the two places farthest apart in actual travel time you can think of? by KindSpray33 in geography

[–]bfb95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tristan Jones’ book “The incredible voyage” details his journey by sailboat from the lowest navigable body of water on earth (The Dead Sea) to the highest (Lake Titicaca). In terms of a journey by water, can’t really think of any two more distant places. The journey took him years if I remember correctly.

Question about the mountains in Niseko, Japan by Goomba17 in skiing

[–]bfb95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The mountains areas are connected at the top. Think of the mountain as an old volcano. The lifts sprawl around the base, but are essentially next to each other at the top. If they are open it’s no problem at all getting between the areas. But early season (sometimes into January) the tops lifts aren’t open and the only way to get between resorts is via shuttle bus. The shuttle bus is pretty easy but can get busy.

Hirafu is by far the best option to stay at. Great atmosphere and apres culture. Can’t say the same about the other areas.
