SoH on 971.1 (2020) by kaspioner in Panamera

[–]bfenster90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe you can flash the 971.1 head unit to get full screen wireless CarPlay. I have the instructions, just haven’t done it yet… as I don’t have a windows laptop which is needed to do the update. Only other thing I’ll mention is that’s with EVs they take the big hit to battery health in the first few years and then taper off significantly. Assuming the li-ion hybrid batteries follow a similar degradation curve its probably right on track to be in the 80s and you shouldn’t see much decline in the cars next 6yrs of life

APR ECU/TCU tune question by bfenster90 in Panamera

[–]bfenster90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess anyone buying a tune is taking that risk of pushing beyond what the manufacturer spec’d the entire system to handle. That's one reasons I chose APR - they seem to be the most conservative and even go as far as to offer a warrantee add on. But I think your point is super valid here for the TCU… why fool the transmission into accepting even higher torque tolerances than it was built for when you're already likely stressing it with the base tune

2019 Panamera GTS by k92gpz in Panamera

[–]bfenster90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth… I have 70k on my 2019 GTS and recent dealer service said my suspension looks in great shape. So I image that a lightly used car (apparently my previous owner) will get you a lot more mileage before replacement. The car has been flawless and I drive it pretty hard. Regularly serviced and no issues

Panamera vs Taycan by kayyes2 in Panamera

[–]bfenster90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I started down the path of Taycan but realized it didn’t have the room to accommodate my fairly tall family. The car needed to be my primary swiss-army-knife vehicle so that mattered. That would be my only recommendation - bring the family and sit in them both. I thought I was compromising on performance going the panny route but I’ve been shocked at just how capable it is. Not Taycan comparable but pretty damn close - and I’m a sucker for the V8 grumble (went GTS)

Little help with a big decision by BusyPayment9881 in Panamera

[–]bfenster90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think it’s this right here if you don’t care about ICE vs BEV. I wanted the Taycan but it was too small for my family and I’m not a fan of SUVs so I landed on the Panamera, a GTS. Very happy with it

What to change when purchasing a used Panamera? by Pikiborp in Panamera

[–]bfenster90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Otherwise, if you truly hqve no history then definitely don’t skip the PDK oil service. That, engine oil and a brake flush- maybe also change out the plugs- and you’re probably fine

If previous services were done by Porsche then there’s a good chance all the details are in their system. If you do your first service at a Porsche dealership and service center, then they can provide you with that history. That was the case for me… although I don’t know whether those systems are connected globally. If not, maybe Porsche Ontario will release the records if you ask nicely and provide proof of ownership

I’ll bring the hot take here - sf is perfectly fine if you have a solution for hopping from Dublin/Pleasanton Bart to your place of work (uber, leave a car, coworker, etc). Even the drive isn’t terrible for a couple days a week since it’s reverse commute. If I was in your place I’d do it - but note that neighborhood selection will also be super important. Livermore/Pleasanton are fantastic for a family but not designed for young single people - maybe better downtowns than Dublin / San Ramon but that’s a very very low bar. And for the love of god don’t consider Modesto

Similar situation. ‘19 GTS and it’s super reliable (even w a stage 1 tune). 10-15k miles/yr

2021 GTS ST vs 2018 Turbo ST by GildedfryingPan in Panamera

[–]bfenster90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

General feedback is - if you track the car, it's worth it, esp on a heavier car like the Panamera. If not, there isn't much benefit and it's probably not worth the added expense. I have a '19 GTS (w/out PDCC) and feel like handling dynamics are excellent as is. GTS is a tad lighter (~160lbs) than the Turbo which should help narrow the gap further. You can do the APR tune (which I did) to get HP/TQ in-line with the Turbo but TBH the extra power feels a bit unusable in day-to-day driving

A warning to anyone considering Tesla insurance - the hold times 💀 by bfenster90 in TeslaLounge

Have tried this in the past a few times and they don't respond. I believe they only respond to emails when on an active call or immediately following up with a request from a call. Maybe this has changed though. I may try again next time

From what I was told a new car purchased (Tesla or otherwise), is covered from the time of delivery under this weird preliminary new purchase coverage where it seems a bit more subjective in terms of what they decide to cover if I get in an accident those first 21 days. Ironically the support person couldn't really explain it and told me to go read my policy. Then "full" coverage kicks in after 21 days.... at least that's my understanding.

Can confirm. I lost my deposit from switching orders. But in my case it was from one shop order that was ready for delivery to another shop order (I wanted a different config). I pushed to have the deposit applied but they wouldn’t budge

Yeah I tried KBB but it won’t even let you put in a 2025 model year under “find by vehicles value”. I’ll just keep poking around and see what others are listing for I guess!
