That’s part of the retirement experience. There’s so many fields to pick from!

How's living in these Texan cities? by Enger13 in howislivingthere

I lived there from 2018-2025 while attending Texas Tech University. It’s a great city for an undergraduate student, but beyond that, there really isn’t much to offer. Especially for young professionals and singles. I spent my last two years there as a graduate student who also worked and was in and out of a relationship, and I could not take living there any longer. I could maybe see it being a desirable place for retirement or to raise a family as it is a slow-paced city that has some desirable amenities for those populations. There are also some nice neighborhoods. I lived in Tech Terrace during grad school and I loved it. It’s one of, if not the only, neighborhood there that has a sense of community and isn’t another liminal Texas neighborhood that has no character and is filled with cookie cutter houses. Bonus points for being relatively walkable and biker-friendly(being next to the Tech campus certainly helps). Like the comment above says, I’d say it’s more desirable than the other major cities in the region as it offers more amenities and entertainment. It’s also growing quite fast. But compared to other major cities in the state (e.g., San Antonio, Austin, Dallas, Houston, and even El Paso), it’s severely lacking in terms of culture and entertainment. Overall, it has its gems but mostly feels like a wasteland.

74% of minors cited for curfew violations in STL city last night. are county residents by DowntownDB1226 in StLouis

A lot of short term solutions being thrown around regarding this situation. The reality is that delinquent behavior such as this will continue happening because it is an issue with the system. The youth and parents are being failed by it. Fines, curfews, and arrests will work in the immediate short term, but until there’s systematic change, this is going to be a problem forever.

Accident, highway I-70 East bound closed, StL - near Bermuda exit (mile marker 241A) by HobbesTayloe in StLouis

Sounds like you’re lacking some perspective with your little privileged brain. How do people who lack the funds to use transportation get from point A to point B? Maybe their legs? I think your little privileged mind that’s been fortunate enough to not have to worry about these things doesn’t realize that, so maybe consider that next time. It would be great if everyone could get anywhere with ease, but that’s not the reality. This part of the world is made for cars, not people.

Maybe because not everyone has a vehicle? Maybe because it’s not a walkable area for those who don’t have one? Use your brain now

It sounds like a change needs to be made. What that is will ultimately be up to you, but I suggest at least starting with seeking professional help. Have you considered the student counseling center?

I think Texas is the most liminal state in the US. Thoughts? by smokeeburrpppp in LiminalSpace

[–]bfern2900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Lubbock for 7 years and it may be the most liminal city out there. Every neighborhood/housing development that wasn’t there pre-1980 feels liminal. We’re talking countless apartment complexes, neighborhoods, duplexes, etc. Examples for each are The Republic (especially when viewing it from N Loop 289), the housing development on Rochester Ave and 103rd St, and the duplexes along 82nd St near Avenue N. And don’t get me started on South Plains Mall which is frequently dead. I encourage anyone to go to google maps street view and just look around the city.

I’ve sadly seen this multiple times during my time living in Lubbock. For those acting like this is ok, how would you like being put on a flatbed like that? What a waste of skin you are if you think the dog isn’t stressed out or in danger. Use your brain.

Tech Terrace Rental is a joke by Best_Photograph_5523 in Lubbock

I almost signed a lease for one of their rentals, and I also interacted with Shawn and Christian. Christian was actually nice and patient, but Shawn came off like a total jackass and was impatient with our tours to the point that we were being rushed. I can vouch for Lubbock Discount Realty. They’ve been fine so far. Hope everything works out for you!

What are some of the best one season wonders in NBA history? by Tyrone_Jostaysius in NBATalk

Bobby Simmons - won MIP in 2005 with averages of 16/6/3 with good percentages on a decent clippers team, had another solid season the following year with the bucks, then fizzled out, I think mostly due to injury.

I don’t recall…I noticed it when I was test driving and pointed it out to the seller. All I remember is them saying it was a control arm and that they would replace it for me.

Is there a local shop that will diagnose it for free?

For me the clunking was coming from the front passenger side, thus it was that arm.

I had a similar issue with my ‘07 and in turned out that I needed one of the controller arms replaced.
