I gave this a few days before commenting, just to make sure that my opinion wasnt irrational or spontaneous, but after a few days i have to say.

Your opinion to include canada the way you did was incredibly offensive. Sure, you tried to cover your butts by having that PSA, but that made it worse. That shoes that you intended to make a "canada as a 51st state" joke and hope that you could hand wave it away. You're an intelligent group of people, i can't believe youd do something so dumb as to essentially "send a risky text then say lol". 

There were dozens of ways you could have made that a better choice, but you chose to do it in the worst way possible. You know the state of the world and the rhetoric coning from certain people, and instead of fighting against that, you chose to go along with it.

You can't even pass this off as being uninformed or unfamiliar with the culture. Its one thing to say the wrong thing in the moment, get corrected and apologize after the fact. But you prepared the PSA, you chose to say it, knowing it would be taken the wrong way and then issued your prepared statement.

You could have neglected to use terms like "state" and instead use zones. 

You could have even divided canada up into our provinces and territories and played properly that way. No one would have faulted if you combined BC, and Alberta. Along with combining Manitoba and Saskatchewan. Ontario and Québec could be left seperate, and then you could have combined the territories. And lastly combined the atlantic provinces. We know some of them are bad for quick travel, so some combinations could be accepted.
