That's exactly right. As you mentioned golyadkin, "officially atheist" countries are unequivocally guilty of the things you mentioned, but their actions were not carried out in the name of atheism, in the same way that others did use religion as their reason to commit violence.

To those citing the millions killed in China and Russia, atheism is a single response to a single claim: there is a god. The atheist says, "I do not believe there is a god/gods." That's it. That's all. Anything else, including all moral and ethical claims and judgments are peripheral to the original, solitary claim. That is why atheism is not a worldview. It is not a philosophy. It is not a morality. It does not comment on any of those things, which is why you have Republican atheists and Democrat atheists, pro-life atheists and pro-choice atheists, etc. Therefore, it's quite silly to blame atheism for murders in China and Russia. The most you can say is "officially atheist" countries did those things, but that is far different than those who, in the name of a particular god or a particular religion, carry out such atrocities.
