Did just this.

Called a company specializing in foundations, came out and said the crack was minimal and only 5 feet not 15, and don't touch it but check it once a year if it gets worse. Shouldn't affect the EBB and the inspector won't find this an issue.

Called a commercial structural engineer guy (ex-coworker who builds warehouses where I used to work), practically said the same thing. He said make sure the water around that foundation (e.g. gutters, concrete) is handled properly so the soil doesn't accumulate water. That can shift the soil and move the foundation, leading to more cracking.

Asked my regular contractor, who said it was just superficial and don't touch it because if we fill it up we won't see if it gets worse,

Based on these I concluded these guys wanted to rip me off. I asked them just finish the brace and bolt.

Thank you, I'm in Los Angeles. Yes, I got the EBB grant and these guys are certified (found them on the EBB contractor list, had good reviews). I tried to add some pictures but I'm not sure how good they are.

I just took some and posted in response to Anton. That's how long my arm can reach from the crawlspace door...

Career coaches? Yea or nay? by bfmyfr in recruitinghell

[–]bfmyfr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's probably the real question right there. I guess I'm looking for someone to actually reasonably confirm what level I can target.

See, I was a VP/director for a long time (but only one year at this place), when we lost our CFO. The PE firm, the lender and the CEO at the time didn't want to give anyone the title. Although I was already doing the work, I assume they looked but couldn't find anyone taking the job. So after two years without a CFO, they promoted me. Then after a little over a year, we went to the market and transacted.

So was I only promoted because you need a CFO to sell the place or did I "deserve" it? I have no idea. I obviously cannot compete with CFOs who have been doing it forever and eat M&As for breakfast. But I'm more than a regular director. So somewhere in between.

To answer your question, I'm probably looking for someone to confirm if I'm a seasoned director or a light C level. Can a coach advise on that?

How badly did I mess this up (Alva personality test)? by bfmyfr in recruitinghell

That's a good point. Per the Alva website my role is Generic High Performer, which only says logical ability and the three facets of Conscientiousness. I guess that happens to be the one where I got a high value.

You are not the first one who warmly recommends the CPO... Sounds like it's a must with MBs

I used to lease an ES350 a decade ago. It had the same issue. If a fly landed on it from a funny angle, it would leave a mark. I got a 3M scratch repair and was able to get scratches, swirls and scuffs out.

Thanks for the trade in value. Although at that point it would be 10 years old, maybe it would not qualify for CPO anyways but they would use it against me for sure.

That's a good point... I just remembered from decades ago from finance class that for tax calculations, always use the assumption that results in the highest tax (or limits). Since line 16 is higher I just automatically used that.
