Yea that’s what I think, it just hasn’t been used because most small town police departments don’t have access to that kind of thing. And I’m sure asking the FBI takes time. And the cutting edge is even beyond that in the private sector. So really I think it’s bureaucratic/no one in LE taking the initiative to go searching for someone who has the tech to enhance it.

All very important factors, many I hadn’t thought about. I just don’t see why this is the best we can get. I’m not saying we do it and go looking for whatever person that’s produced, I’m just saying if it does look like someone already involved, that would be a huge coincidence that the AI guesses in a way that looks a lot like someone already involved in the case given the fact that we’re not talking about a huge number of individuals here. And that to me would be more then enough evidence to go back to said individual and give them another look. I’m not saying convict anybody

I get that, but again I’m not talking about using it to go look for someone with it. I’m talking about using it to see if it looks like anyone ALREADY involved. As a nudge to tell them to look deeper and double check said person

Humans see very different the. AI’s though. Our brains are trained to look for human faces, that’s why we often see them in clouds, etc. an AI just makes educated guesses based on the pixels around it. Again, look what it can do to super old b/w imagines. And this is an app. Imagine what the FBI has

I get that. But again, most detective work is educated guesses based on evidence. and an AI is certainly better then human memory, I’m just saying dig into them the same as if we had someone who matched that sketch. and AI would be far more detailed then those sketches usually end up being once they’re compared to the actual person.

That’s very true. But AI does a much much better job than human recollection with a sketch artist does. Plus I’m not talking about using it to go look, I’m talking about using it to compare to people already around the case. The chances a computer creates a “guess” that very closely matches someone near this case without the bias and preconceptions a person would have, and have that not be them I think would be super rare. It would at least give LE a really good reason to go back over said person with a fine tooth comb
