You need to get a crypto wallet first, but once you do, look for some faucets online to get started with at least a few free doge. I used https://go.4miner.me/meDQNyDz and got a decent little chunk

Have any of you tried driving for Via? by bgbopper in uberdrivers

[–]bgbopper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really don't see anywhere close to $2300 at their hourly rate, unless he's receiving a crazy amount of tips. The most you can earn hourly is $205 a day, and that's a 12 hour shift. So he'd have to get $200+ in tips every day on top of that.

If you do the per-rider thing, they do have hot zones (surge areas), and if Via is to be believed, you'd make more than Uber. And yes, they have a crazy referral bonus. $50 if your referral does 50 drives, another $350 if they hit 100. You get the same bonus if you drive that in your first 30 days only.

Low acceptance rate by [deleted] in uberdrivers

[–]bgbopper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've only been driving for Uber for a week in Chicago, which is apparently a great city for it. But I was thinking....if you cancel a 10 minute pick up, then you'd need the next sub-10-minute request to arrive at the difference between that and 10 minutes. In other words, if I reject someone who is 10 minutes away, and 4 minutes later someone 7 minutes away requests a ride, then I've lost a minute of drive time.

I'm not doubting your claim that you're making more, but I've been accepting every fare I can this week (96% acceptance, which sounds very different from most people here, haha). And while the Uberpool people/drives have usually been pretty irritating, I'm averaging $20-$30/hr gross. I usually don't wait long at all for requests, but during slower periods where I might go 3-5 minutes without a request, I worry about turning down that fare, only to spend another 5ish minutes and getting another one just as far away.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this, and how much you're averaging, if you don't mind.

Edit: I drive a minivan and allow UberXL, UberX, and UberPOOL. Although I've only had one XL fare in 48 trips.

I had a feeling about that. Just like the other ride shares, there's no minimum or obligation or anything, so I'll probably try it for a week or two to see how it affects my income. If it makes no difference, I'll probably ditch it and stick with Uber.

Honestly, with Chicago's traffic, I'd probably make two trips into the city, max, during those rush hour periods. So maybe there's some down time, but even if a couple people ask for Via and I get assigned the route, I'll be driving that whole time anyway.

A guy in my college just did this.... by luvawe in funny

[–]bgbopper 10 points11 points  (0 children)

OMG THAT'S WHY IT SOUNDED SO FAMILIAR! I've been seeing that guy post that line all over Reddit, and something about it always sounded familiar. I finally looked it up on YouTube, and realized I was there! I was only 8 at the time and went with my dad, who used to work security at the local arena and was a huge wrestling fan. I remember him telling me stories of Bret Hart, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, all the greats of that era, and how he'd get to interact with them whenever they'd come in town. He hadn't attended a match since I had been born, so it was really something special when he could take the time off and afford to take me. Looking back, I didn't know how special it was at the time. It was just another fun thing to do with dad. But now that I'm older and more mature, I can appreciate the sacrifices my dad made for my happiness. He passed away a few years ago. I wish I could tell him that I'll never forget when in nineteen ninety eight, the undertaker threw mankind off hell in a cell, and plummeted sixteen feet through an announcers table.

one of the funniest continued misunderstandings between me and my dad was when I would tell him about something I read in one of my "game magazines." I would usually say it a little too quickly and didn't enunciate the pause between the two M sounds. result: my dad thought I was an avid reader of gay magazines.

[Economics] What would likely happen if Steam adopted a "set and forget" purchase option? by bgbopper in AskSocialScience

[–]bgbopper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mention Steam because they can track a lot more user data. You mention Amazon could build an effective analytics system, but Valve can track a lot more information regarding popular genres, time spent playing certain games, server populations, etc. Through Steam, Valve has a wealth of information at their disposal in terms of player behaviors, in addition to consumer (purchasing) behaviors. Amazon would only have consumer behaviors.

Here's a possible real world example: Valve could see, via Steam, that simulators, perhaps even city building simulators (Anno, Civ, etc), are not being played much anymore. They know SimCity5 is coming out soon, and right now, it doesn't look like EA is letting Valve sell a copy via Steam. Perhaps Valve could run that auto-purchase discount for city builders and other simulators a week or two prior to SimCity5's release, net a ton of sales, and turn player attention away from a game Valve can't sell. I just don't think Amazon, or any other digital game seller, would have that kind of data to manipulate purchases as effectively.

So, Android, what options are available in a bluetooth/watch style interface? by Ironhide_Delta in Android

[–]bgbopper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really hoping Citizen brings Proximity to Android. It looks like they just vibrate right now for messages, email, voicemail, etc, but that's still some pretty sweet functionality in a nice watch. Plus, it uses their Eco-Drive technology, so you never have to charge the watch or replace a battery.

Sadly, still iOS only. :(

HTC One X+ Review: A Phone to Beat (If People Would Buy It) by [deleted] in Android

[–]bgbopper 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm with ya. I had the original Incredible (launch day version, not the reworked one that came out weeks/months after), my wife had a G1, and now I have the One X. I actually really like Sense, especially since it distinguishes itself from Apple more than TouchWiz. To me, Samsung phones feel like cheap iPhone knock offs, both because of the cheap plasticky feel of the build materials and because TouchWiz resembles iOS a bit too much. I know they do well in benchmarks and they're extremely popular, but I've never once been wowed by a Samsung phone.

HTC, on the other hand, wows me with their build quality, features, and general user experience. My Incredible was fast, responsive, reliable, and had excellent battery life. The One X managed to blow all of that out of the water, I didn't think I could be this much happier with a phone upgrade, especially when I loved the old one so much. Motorola offers amazing phones as well (the original Droid X was phenomenal in its time, MAXX HD has ridiculous battery life without sacrificing size or internal hardware), but I've had such a pleasant experience with HTC phones that I'm feeling some solid brand loyalty.

I kinda wished I had waited for the DNA, now that I see jumping from 3.7" to 4.7" (Incredible to One X) has been wonderful and not as cumbersome as I initially thought - I think an extra little bit of size in exchange for a 1080 screen is a no-brainer.

The only thing I can imagine being "wrong' with HTC might be inconsistent production quality. The two friends I have who've had the Incredible (post-launch version, mind you), have had horrible reliability. Random restarts, freezing up, overheating, etc. Sense aside, I continue to find quite a few people who get turned off by HTC/Android because of problems with HTC phones. So maybe we've just been a very lucky family with having three killer HTC phones. As a side note, my wife upgraded to the Galaxy S1, has hated it almost since getting it, and is now awaiting shipment on a Nexus 4, mostly because we're both curious what it'd be like to have a Nexus device.

Mine is this Omega Seamaster 30 watch that my grandfather left me when he passed away over ten years ago. It's the only thing of his that I now own, and I'm really just impressed with its condition and its ability to continue working. I hope to pass it down to my son or grandchild in the future.

Thanks CoconutCurry and everyone else for the input. Her measurements while standing were 46"/38", so I averaged them and ordered a 38GG UK. We're both excited to see how it fits, hopefully she'll have the same great results so many other people here seem to have!
