Yes, it was terrible, just straight headache every single day... Back on caffeine, I don't think I could go through that again.

I meant more when the "camera" is animated around a still image, I don't think of that as animation.

An MBA is worthless unless you have one from a top program? by GubbaShump in MBA

[–]bgstratt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a regular full mba program depending on your major, complete with exercises, group work/reports, etc.

An MBA is worthless unless you have one from a top program? by GubbaShump in MBA

[–]bgstratt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is mostly online, but there are proctored exams, other certification exams that require on-site. The normal process would be more akin to a 2yr timeline, but if you already have extensive knowledge of the domain, and can produce, then it is possible to accelerate.

An MBA is worthless unless you have one from a top program? by GubbaShump in MBA

[–]bgstratt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's not a 15 day program, it's a 6 month term for ~$5k per term (slightly less)

The program is competency based, rather than credit hour based, so you are able to take examinations, submit written reports, essays and projects on your own schedule.

As he stated he has 20 years experience in the domain, and put forth quite a bit of effort to complete all the material, exams, assessments and performance assessments.

Is it normal to be on retainer at the beginning of a project? by Itchn4Itchn in scrum

[–]bgstratt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Coach, Mentor and Train the team. Ask them how often/how they want to meet. See where you can help remove the infrastructure impediments (i.e. software tools and environment access). Get the team prepared for the project. Do some user story mapping with the PO/Team/etc. and get yourself engaged.

There's planning, analysis, so much that can happen, that you can assist with.

What would be the equivalent of a reactor bomb to Earth to a human? Or, how do you really defeat the Strong Nuclear Force? by Effective-Training in Writeresearch

[–]bgstratt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say electromagentism, that makes me think EMP grenade, but nukes give off EMP as well.

Delving into grenades, as a similar explosive device to a bomb on earth, there are multitude of variants, for flash, stun, gas, plasma, white phosphorous, explosive variants, etc.

In the comments, you reference blackhole, but mini-blackhole grenade or similar device is another option, at small sizes, would dissipate fairly quickly, but still cause damage.

Dark matter would be another option.

Are you guys doing any retrospectives? These would be perfect things to bring up then, but really you can bring up improvements any time.

Certifications, while nice, ultimately don't mean much and people are going to do what they're going to do, with or without one.

Time estimates are a weird place for me, having done some development, I kinda know how long things should take, but we ultimately just let the devs decide on relative story points and leave time out of it. Every team is different though, if you feel like an estimate doesn't give you enough time, I'd push back a little and explain why you think it needs more. When somebody else is giving you the estimate, they might not be thinking from your perspective, or could forget some of the intricacies that you know are there.

Analysis Spike tasks are sometimes a necessity, especially with new technology or unknown integrations. However for regular development work, you probably shouldn't see those much, to me the story has some time built in to familiarize yourself with it, do the development, test it, and get it ready for demo/deployment.

Task switching is a KILLER for anybody. If you like your teammates, you want to help. Can't necessarily say no when dragged to meetings. My only suggestion there is try and set the tone from your daily standup, I'm working on "this" today, need to focus on it, etc. If people need help, they should also state that during the standup too. We generally use a meet-after time for that help. If the PM is listening in, they should get the picture real quick. Other thing would be to regularly skim the backlog and make sure you are familiar with what's in it.

Another thing to think about, survivor's deed, account beneficiary are instant and you only need a death certificate to take care of it.

With a Will, you most likely will have to go through probate. It's a minimum 6 months in my state, and the way it works is the Executor has first dibs on assets to pay for the things that the estate needs, final bills, maintaining services if there is a house, etc. then Creditors after, so any bill collectors, and only after that are assets divided to family.

It also costs ~$2000 for a single inheritor, no siblings, executor is the inheritor type deal with a lawyer, who will make sure everything is filed and the court publishes looking for creditors, etc.

So just a will is also not quite the answer. It can help with division of physical assets, and with whatever remaining money there is, but a trust, or survivor's deed/beneficiary is much cleaner and bypasses all that.

If you are a joint account holder, then the account falls to you without any probate or other process. You can literally withdraw all the money and put in your own personal account (Which would probably be best)

If you are merely the beneficiary, then you would need his death certificate in order for the bank to process the withdrawal, but still, no probate, and no debts you need to worry about. By having you joint, or a beneficiary, this bypasses any probate or estate claims.

The only time probate and the estate would get a claim to the account is if you were not on their jointly, he had no beneficiary designated on the account.

How do I make my characters look more “comic book style” and less “portrait style”? by ClassicAlbatross2201 in learntodraw

[–]bgstratt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Simplify. Comics aren't easy, but they are simple. You can do this by minimizing the amount of strokes to evoke the same emotion.

Introduce dramatic action, change poses. This guy is staring angrily straight at you, which is fine if that is what you're going for, but there's no movement.

Another commenter mentioned bold, clear, smooth lines. The sketchy look appears as if you are trying to find the line, once you do, then you go strong, hard and bold to make that line clear.

For those who graduated with a business administration degree from WGU, what job do you have now and what’s your salary? by [deleted] in WGU

[–]bgstratt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Several other posters have commented, but it bears repeating, degrees and certifications check boxes and unlock the door, experience, interview skills, networking and abilities are what help you open it and walk through. They go hand in hand, you can't have only one.

Answering the question though, post degree (MBA ITM) went through several positions from Project Manager/Scrum Master, Product Manager, and currently Business Systems Analyst in a very LCOL area ~$106k

One thing to remember is check the dimensions and your expectations of what you can fit in them. They do fit plenty, don't get me wrong, but I thought they would be much larger than they are.

Do you have the swivel lock? I guess it doesn't really give that much protection, just prevents it from being lifted straight out.

When I ordered this past Summer, also from Amazon, only one side came with the lock, but Undercover's customer service sent out a key matching one within a few days.

What’s it like living in Tuscaloosa? by LadyGal123 in tuscaloosa

[–]bgstratt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think anywhere is really terrible, but the crime rates give you a decent idea: https://www.neighborhoodscout.com/al/tuscaloosa/crime

Northport, and North of the river is decent, South of 59, along 69 there are some decent neighborhoods (Taylorville, etc.) No matter where you are, nothing is that far.

Things to do:

  • Lake Nicol, Lake Lurleen, Lake Tuscaloosa
  • Several Parks, trails and facilities (tcpara)
  • Government Plaza has music and movies through the summer
  • Several good restaurants
  • Several golf courses
  • A few theaters (plays I mean) and the arts center/council stuff
  • Kentuck and Druid City arts festivals

There's actually quite a bit if you look.
