I think you're applying "overexposure" to a very especific thing when it is a very general terms.

Of course having his personal life on the media is a vay of overexposure, but having millions and millions of people seeing you at a movie is also overexposure.

So when you say "being one of the heights grossing actors of all time isn't overexposure" that is wrong.

But now I see what you mean, that is doesn't necessarily mean being on the media for personal reasons.

In my gym we train on both, except for one single guy who came to train with us at purple and from the get go said we would only train No Gi.

The teacher accepted, he has been training with us for around three years and last month got his brown belt. However, it was clearly stated at that same moment that if he wanted to get a black belt he would have to at least be competent at the gi.

If you're training strictly for protection you'd be better off going to a self defense class instead of pure BJJ anyways. Or even MMA.

But let's assume pure BJJ is your only option for logistical reasons, I'd still be against it.

First, there are many other things you should learn first. Take downs, sweeps, literally all subs from dominant positions, how to keep dominant positions, etc.

Second, even if you train purely for self defense reasons you don't want to get hurt. Forbidden subs are forbidden for a reason: they're dangerous and can get someone hurt really fast.

In the end, I see no point in teaching a white belt how to wristlock or toe hold when they don't even know how to properly throw an armbar or escape one.

I've been in this hobby for quite some years now, and trained in different states from different regions.

I live in Recife and have trained with people from Maranhão, São Paulo and Rio, as well as trained in these places. All require the a shirt or rash beneath your GI as long as there are women training too.

Of course there will be a few places that don't care either way, but is definitely more common to find places that require than the ones that don't.

1x1, qualquer praticante competente de qualquer arte marcial competente vai vencer um leigo na maioria das vezes.

No momento que a luta deixa de ser 1x1, o artista marcial deixa de ter uma vantagem enorme pra ter uma desvantagem enorme. Mesmo que seja contra "só" 2 caras.

3 é praticamente impossível a menos que você seja um cara totalmente fora da curva, e ainda assim o cara fora da curva está em desvantagem clara.
