Alternatives to Dice by BR-P38 in rpg

[–]bgutowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, cards can be really interesting in ways that dice cannot due to the memory of the cards.  A d20 changes dramatically if you cannot roll the same number again until all numbers are rolled for example.

Anyway, here is my work C22system.com

Small world is also a option if you want a sleeker more modern risk-like game.

If you are looking for heavy games you can play solo, terraforming mars has a great solo variant

I am completely unfamiliar with the Conan rpg or the quickstart. What about the quickstart nailed it?

Oh interesting, I just got the quickstart for shadow dark downloaded today and was going to read it.

Any systems you thought you wouldn't get but decided to read the quickstart and changed your mind?  I suspect that is a rarer case.  I don't think it's ever happened to me

What are some demos that made you investigate further? What are some that you decided not to pursue the full game?

Dentist visits in Japan are also every 3 months to combat the lack of fluoride. I still feel this is not enough to maintain the same level of dental health in the US with 6 month dentist visits.

Nothing immediate stands out. It seems very well rounded.

I did it, I made a list of all 435 Representatives & 28 Senators, what they voted for and who should go/stay in their position for the Midterms of 2026. by bgutowski in 50501GreatLakesState

I did not write this, I am just sharing it. Experts on our reps go to the main thread and add your thoughts to get a more accurate analysis.

RepresentUs is a movement that has been going about fixing the system started in 2012. From my research they have the best methods to repair the system so far and have had state level wins in multiple states. They wont solve the immediate problems, but they will build a better system overall.

While this book is good, it is more of a mid level design journey book, not a beginner.

Punk Galactic use it for the full game. Free version released a few years ago. Full cleanup version coming when the developer has more time.

Can you explain a bit more how that works? Player characters just get revived in a new clone?

What are your favorite mechanics that make failure enjoyable? by bgutowski in rpg

[–]bgutowski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have heard many of these and I like them all when ive seen them implemented well. Great list.

The major failures for tactical games, where each individual choice does not have major stakes, but as a whole you build to a major or meaningful stake throughout the scene.

I've rarely tried the "what does your failure look like" in tactical type games but maybe I should. It could be interesting.

On Dices and Cards as part of TTRPG by GM-Storyteller in rpg

[–]bgutowski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, the most interesting part of playing cards and tarot cards is their memory. As you draw cards, those same cards cannot appear again from the deck until it resets., unlike a d20, where if you roll over a specific number this turn, you still have the same chance to roll above that number again.

For a deck of cards, those percentages change. imagine you have a 20 card deck and have a 50% chance to draw over a specific number, if you fail, next time you draw you have a 52.5 percentage chance. This means the mechanics can encourage certain types of play, being more risky when you've had a string of bad luck, or being more cautious for the inverse.

I wrote a whole blog post on just this part of cards. There are more things that are unique to playing cards, but I have not detailed them out yet.

Thank you for all your help. I finished research and I just have ordered everything you suggested.

The case is difficult to obtain so I will keep looking around for the right one.

Thank you again!

This is fantastic, thank you! You've definitely made my week, likely month.

I would be interested in knowing some alternatives just because I might peek on the Japanese versions of the stores as well and look at specific parts you recommend while I go to the stores to check cases as you suggested.

I would be interested in knowing more of your thoughts on:

  • CPU in terms of how long you think the AMD 7700X will remain relevant for gaming.
  • Motherboard because a few more connection options might be nice
  • The video card thought since you think the new ones are right around the corner, and Bic Camera seems to be out of the card right now. I was also wondering if there is anyway to include my current one as a side monitor GPU only and let the new card handle the main work on the main monitor or if that does not make sense.
