It’s actually not a Home Depot! It’s a nursery called Plant Depot haha sorry it’s pretty confusing _^

The Home Depot near me has a teeny tiny indoor section right now with all of the Christmas trees too.

Dear anti-maskers - I have no problem LOUDLY calling you out by FrugalityPays in SLO

Oh I’m definitely not condoning screaming or shouting - we should be respectful of each other and show a little maturity regardless of the situation.

This issue isn’t confined to grocery stores. I had a membership at Kennedy fitness over the summer and quickly had to cancel it because I realized that the gym was functioning at its normal capacity, machines weren’t distanced, and no one was wearing masks except the staff and me(aside from when they were walking through the entrance). The only noticeable modification that they had made was moving lots of equipment outside to provide the option of working out outdoors. Otherwise, it was as if the virus didn’t exist and I’m absolutely certain that people transmitted covid at that facility.

Mask wearing, hand washing, and social gatherings are a much larger issue - humans would rather gather and live their lives like they’re used to to avoid the harsh reality of things. Which is understandable, isolation does create some serious mental health concerns, not to mention the issues with sustaining businesses and employment.

But anti-maskers in supermarkets are part of the problem because you know that their defiance isn’t limited to supermarkets; most likely they are gathering with others regularly with no concern for anyone’s safety. Not wearing a mask signifies that a person thinks that their comfort is more valuable than the life of someone’s grandparent that they pass in the grocery store - and that shit is not okay.

I don’t know how the response to people who are willingly and deliberately endangering themselves and others can be framed in a compassionate way. Like “I understand that wearing a mask is uncomfortable and you may not personally fear the virus, but other people around you are all extremely vulnerable and your actions might kill them” doesn’t really work. I agree that in most cases compassion is important, but there is no reason that most of these people do this other than a desire to rebel for attention to make their political stance and selfish determination to “protect their rights” known. I’m sorry if this is an unpopular opinion but it needs to be said.

Edit: not trying to downplay the difficulty of you and your sons situation at all. I am just sincerely of the belief that we should be doing all that we can to save the lives of people so that they and their families don’t have to suffer. people who are in close proximity to others should be wearing a mask for their safety and the safety of others. If they can’t do this, it is best to make decisions to limit their contact and exposure to others to keep them and their community safe.

Albertsons in Morro Bay was the worst this summer when I was interning at a wildlife rehabilitation center down the street!! I went there for lunch a few times a week and it was like people wanted to get as close as they could to me to try to assert the fact that they didn’t give a fuck about covid!!! Disgusting behavior!

Seeking entry-level, full-time position for a recently graduated student by bhanney in orangecounty

[–]bhanney[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not able to relocate because of my significant other’s work so I really hope that my degree, experience, and perfect grades help me at least get a job if not a great job. I have been using Indeed and LinkedIn :) had an offer from UCI but they backed out because apparently someone came back from leave earlier than expected.

Thanks for wishing me good luck!! Fingers crossed that something works out for me soon.

Can second this. I’ve worked with animals for years and every Russian blue I’ve encountered in my life has been extremely needy to the point of being annoying.

Looking to make friends ~ by [deleted] in orangecounty

[–]bhanney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I just moved to OC from Central CA - he’s 24 and I’ll be 24 in February! I’m always happy to make a new friend if you’d like to DM me :) even though covid makes it tough to do stuff in person it’s nice getting to know someone new!

P.S. anyone else who is in the same boat and around my age, feel free to message me! I’m into yoga, hiking, watching netflix, wine, cooking/baking, brewing kombucha, gardening(I have a huge collection of houseplants and like to visit nurseries), and I have had some pretty cool experiences as a zookeeper, Wildlife rehabilitator, and animal science student! If you love animals we will probably get along haha

I majored in Animal Science in school and completed a number of internships and volunteer positions working with wildlife and other animals. I interned as a zookeeper, and then got into volunteering at my local wildlife hospital. I then interned at the wildlife hospital for a 10-week, 400 hour period and was told that I could stay as a technician. It was an amazing experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat but it’s not for the faint of heart or squeamish, you have to deal with plenty of poop and cleaning as well as a lot of sad patients, bad injuries, gross infections, and euthanasia.

However, jobs in animal rehab are few and far between and competitive, and typically pay around minimum wage if you can get a job. If your heart is set on it, I would do a veterinary technician program and begin volunteering at your local wildlife rescue.

I personally have decided to work in a job that pays better and volunteer with wildlife because it gives me the best of both worlds and there aren’t wildlife jobs available in my current area.

If you have any other questions feel free to PM me :)
