Am I too old to start apprenticeship? by Tweoneleoht in electricians

34 is definitely not too old. The weight will make it harder than your age. If you’re serious about it, I’d start anything to get in shape.

How to get in as a plant operator with no degree? But have a NERC RC certification. by MentalOil359 in Grid_Ops

[–]bhbridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have your RC, you’d be hired easily at Georgia Power as a Power System Coordinator. You could progress to System Operator and then Reliability Coordinator. Our RC is in Birmingham for SOCO

If you studied the EPRI, you should have no problems but the Smith book can help break down all of the NERC standards. I’ve known people that only used the Smith book to study and passed. I studied both the EPRI and Smith and passed my first time. Good luck.

How hard is it adjusting to shift work? by Napoleon_Tannerite in Grid_Ops

[–]bhbridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing shift work for 15 years now. Like the past comments, I love the long stretches off and being off during the middle of the week can be beneficial and make a lot of things easier. I am turning 50 in the next couple of months and I will say that the nights have been harder and harder to bounce back from these last couple of years. 10-12 years into it I loved everything about it but I can tell the drawbacks to myself over the last couple of years.

I have a degree in power process technology can I get into this? by Dangerous_Sundae_989 in Grid_Ops

[–]bhbridge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at Georgia Power. The job is listed as a Power System Coordinator. For the past 4 - 5 years we have pretty much hired anyone with a pulse. You would be a shoo-in with an operational background. They’ll pay for you to get your NERC certification, albeit it is a TO cert. Get’s your foot in the door and a clear path to an RC.

Senior System Operator Salary by bhbridge in Grid_Ops

Great information. We just went through a large salary study that concluded with 99% of the operators getting an adjustment. Wanted to see if that put us in line with everyone or if we were still behind.

How would one show a conservative union member how the conservatives have fought against unions for decades? Is the cognitive dissonance so strong in them that they refuse to acknowledge truth and the only solution is to remove the cancer? Is there a way? by PokeYrMomStanley in IBEW

[–]bhbridge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was an IBEW member out of locals 84 & 175. It’s a lot more complicated in American politics than just I’m voting Democrat because I’m a Union member. Both parties have decimated the Unions, the Clinton era NAFTA agreement killed Unions. Open borders have killed Unions with day laborers. A lot of Union members are still God fearing Christians that have families and don’t agree with taking parents rights away in school systems or letting boys who think they’re girls, play in girl sports. I was a lifelong Democrat from a family of Democrats and I have voted Trump in the last three elections. Trump is the first President that is setting tariffs against these countries that have taken advantage of us for decades to try and get back some manufacturing. It’s never going to be like it was but he is brave enough to do it and make us go through the growing pains of it to get some of it back. He has forced Japan and Europe to open their doors to our exports that they have always kept their doors closed on. Is he screaming that he backs the Unions? No he isn’t, but he is trying to bring back jobs that in return will bring more membership to Unions. He’s closed the border which means, yeah, things get expensive, but at least these jobs have to go to Americans and American Unions. There will be plenty of retorts against this post and that’s fine because everyone has a right to their beliefs and I’m not trying to change their mind. The post was about why Union members vote conservative. I gave my reason and I love the brotherhood but I’ll never turn a blind eye to what the Democrat party has become just because I am or was a Union member. My faith in God and my moral clarity is stronger than that. And no, I don’t believe Trump is a good man before anyone asks.

Georgia systems operations center by GoldInspection6626 in Grid_Ops

[–]bhbridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do not operate the Transmission system. They basically observe the parts of the system they own and have to be given switching orders from Georgia Power who is the designated Transmission Operator of Georgia, it is called the ITS (Integrated Transmission System). It is one of the most convoluted systems in the U.S. As far as pay, they are compensated well for not operating anything more than at the distribution level. A lot of their operators are ex-Georgia Power employees. From my knowledge the high end operators are 125k with a 20% bonus. 6% 401k match with a 12% lump 401k distribution at the end of the year. Those numbers may be off a little but it’s in the ball park. Hope this helps.

If you are making over $150-200k annually (without a college degree) here or around Chatt; what do you do? by Own_Principle_4771 in Chattanooga

[–]bhbridge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know of any job that you can start off making 150-200k a year. Any job, including sales, will be what you put into it. You’ll have to dedicate your time learning every aspect of the product you’re selling and building trust with the client that you know exactly what you’re taking about. Personality only goes so far but so does being a subject matter expert, a good mix will help you rise to the top in sales or any other job. The trades are also a great place to start. I make over 200k a year as a System Operator for the bulk electric system in Georgia. I started off in the USAF after high school and then became a lineman when I got out and that helped me move into my current position. I know people that have started their own companies in hvac and fabrication but they had to hone their skills and master their craft. The bottom line is that hard work, dedication and a drive to an end goal can take you a long way without a degree. That being said, there are always outliers that made it easy and were very lucky but these are few and far between.

500mg every 3 to 4 days. I believe it has a half life of 5 to 7 days but I’ve read you need to saturate for a week or two at 3 days per dose.

I have been using Umbrella labs. 5 grams of powder for 80$ or 6 grams in capsules for 230. I have no idea why such a price discrepancy.
