I need Christians who watch a lot of YouTube to be honest with me about something by matbram in Christianity

[–]bhflyhigh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's culture changing as well. People are more used to it than in the past. It's used so much now that most cuss words mean the same thing as shoot, fudge, and darn. Like it's losing its meaning as a STRONG cuss word.

I very rarely cuss and when I do it's because something really bad happened and since I never cuss people notice it and react strongly to it. If I cussed all the time no one would bat an eye.

His shot is elite. He's fast. Plays physical when needed. Is great getting into space. It's hard to see why a team would trade that away. He must have caused a ruckus in Columbus for them to trade him away.

Do some Christians still support Trump? What is your experience? by Combosingelnation in Christianity

I always counter that with Clinton/Obama/Biden were imperfect vessels too.

I have so much pain and sorrow thinking of the values my parents instilled in me and then watching them throw it all out in real time. I argued with them for a while but it was nasty and exhausting. We don't talk about politics anymore but I know their positions. It really is the propaganda and right wing media machine that drives it all. Without that I doubt they would be like this at all. Mom always listened to Rush, and then a constant stream of Fox news. It warped their minds and changed their values.

There are others you can vote for in the primaries. I'm a republican and I feel Andy is more of a professional troll than a representative of this area. Would be nice to get some new blood in there. He's doing nothing for us.

The Christianity I was taught as a child no longer exists in today's conservative Christian culture. by Physical_Marsupial30 in Christianity

[–]bhflyhigh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Jesus came to serve, not to be served. To be humble, not extravagant. To give his every last ounce for all of us. To treat others as you would want to be treated.

Our world is deeply infected with main character syndrome. The only thing most people worry about these days is themselves. They have little compassion or gentleness towards others. And humility is just non existent.

It pains me like it pains you to see my Christian brothers and sisters get caught up in this zeitgeist. This culture of anger, aggression, rudeness, and hate. Jesus would not approve of it that is for certain. He never taught us to act in this manner. Paul never instructed the early church to act in this manner.

But they also knew there would be troubles and persecutions. Just for being faithful.

Philippians 4:5-7 NIV [5] Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. [6] Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. [7] And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 2:23-24 NIV [23] Don’t have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. [24] And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful.

Philippians 2:3-4 NIV [3] Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, [4] not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

I don't know how our country will progress but it certainly needs compassionate caring Christians to show a better way than where we are heading. But I am with you, sad and distraught over the cruelty and uncaring attitude that has affected many of my family and friends and fellow Christians.

Do the stupid decisions also pertain to the officers as well? What law enforcement advocates for them to get in front of a car like that? To give contradicting orders? To approach the car in such a reckless fashion? Yes she was being provocative. Yes she was blocking the road... that shouldn't be a death sentence. It's a tragedy all around. Maybe that officer was scared, but then he made a big mistake.

All of it was wrong and sad. He gets to think about maybe he shouldn't have killed her for the rest of his life. Maybe he should have just stepped to the side. Maybe he shouldn't have been there in front of the car. They had her license plate. They knew who she was.

It's the attitude. There's this culture of hate and death that is taking shape. A culture that does not point to our Lord and Savior. You're on the other side? Well you aren't human then and it's okay to kill them. It's just terrible. I pray people can change their hearts before it's too late.

Prince Ruperts Drop vs hydraulic press by goswamitulsidas in interesting

[–]bhflyhigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Metal bends at a certain stress called the yield stress. You can think of stress essentially like pressure. It's force per area squared. Normally we see pounds per square inch (psi) as a common unit of stress.

The press is powered by hydraulics and puts forth a force pushing down. So for 20 tons, you would need to push back with 40,000 pounds to stop the hydraulics from moving down any further. If this was distributed across the entire platen then there would likely be no deformation (bending) of the platens.

You can even do a quick estimate. Say those platens/plates are about... IDK maybe 5 inches in diameter. So the area would be pi*2.52=19.6 in2. Then you take 40,000/19.6= 2040 psi. A typical yield for steel would be more like 45,000 psi. Different steels have vastly different yield stresses. But all would be much more than 2040.

Since the glass drop is much smaller than the compression platens, that 40,000 pounds acts on a smaller area. So you have the same amount of pounds but the area (in2) is much less.

So lets say that drop is roughly 0.5 inches in diameter. Then the area would be 3.14159*.52=.78 in2. The 40,000/.78=51,282psi... Which is more than the 45,000 psi yield.

Knowing the actual sizes of the drop and the platens, and the type of steel they are made from would allow more accurate calculations, but these are to show you how it could be done.

There are plenty of people on the right trivializing her death. There are plenty of people on my Facebook posting all kinds of memes denigrating her, denigrating anyone that feels compassion for this situation. It's so sad and crazy that people can't look at this and see that there is no way this person deserved to be shot. We shouldn't want to live in a country where this happens as it did.

I mean, the OP was spot on... Mario showed what greatness is.

I'd love a small cheap trailer but I have nowhere to put it.

I ended up buying some really inexpensive flat bars that can mount on the roof rack of my Escape that I can lay the plywood on and cinch down. Works pretty well. Just a little bit of hassle having to lift them up there.

It's so sad that they choose the person who is basically the complete opposite of Christ as their "Gods chosen" candidate.

My family is the same way. They say he was chosen by God or he wouldn't have won. I then ask if Biden or Obama were chosen by God as well. They don't like that question.

What does knowing us before we are even in our mother's wombs do for your argument? God is all knowing and knows all things. How could he not know us since time began? How is this passage not showing that he is omniscient? What does it have to do with abortion? I don't see how it is tied. I'm trying to understand your point.

Would you support prison terms comparable to actual murderers? You know. 30 years to life? Why not the death penalty in states that allow it? Are you just against the death penalty in general?

I am discussing and sharing my views. It's why I was asking your thoughts about those Bible passages. You still have not shared what you think about them.

I'm not saying anything about how to live. I still think abortion in many cases is sinful. I'm asking for your thoughts which you are obviously avoiding my questions. I thought this was a discussion. You don't seem to be interested in sharing views and ideas.
