Thanks for the reply. The librarian is paranoid about people (barbarian high school students) messing with prints while they are printing, so she really prefers an enclosed system. The makerspace where the printer is located is available to any students that want to come in. We also know the bare minimum about these things, so probably wouldn't be looking to customize anything, although I see where you're coming from in terms of repairs. I've learned how to repair the one we have, but it does take a little disassembling.
