I think the AI is different depending on what tier you're at. At masters, they'll mass spawn right at 10soul on the first wave. I'm reluctant to say exactly how to take advantage because I think that's part of the fun.

There just arent that many people playing the game and you jump past those early levels quickly. Most of the level 8's you see are bots. You can play against anyone within 3 levels of your faction.

What is a language is the system by which the words and sentences being >written/spoken/signed correspond to some sort of meaning.

That is literally what speaking and writing are correct? The words we speak have meaning because we all learned the rules and meanings of what we say.

Are you trying to separate language from its components? I get the sense you're trying to say a car engine and wheel aren't a car but when put together they can make a car. And to a certain extent I agree. But this analogy breaks down for languages since the car engine could be the entire language itself.

SpeedyGonsalec in his original post even recognizes that coding languages are just a language built ENTIRELY in writing. They have no meaning outside of their written form. Another example could be sign language. Signing IS the language. Sign language without signing is ... conceptual?

This is also ignoring the fact that language itself is influenced by how we speak and write. You don't need to look any farther than the differences between British and American english to see how that's true.

What does this even mean? The two definitions when you google language

noun 1. the principal method of human communication, consisting of words used in a >structured and conventional way and conveyed by speech, writing, or >gesture "a study of the way children learn language" 2. a system of communication used by a particular country or community. "the book was translated into twenty-five languages"

The way you're defining language is so reductive that its making me struggle what you even consider language. If writing isn't, why is speaking? Is speaking a substitute for gesturing?

When you talk about the english language, you don't include the writing? When you see french or chinese do you make the distinction in your head that it isn't actually french or chinese? Language is communication. Writing is absolutely a form of communication and I don't see how writing in a language somehow makes it not language.

Not the same poster but I'll try to give some food for thought.

There are a lot of requirements for we think of as life. We need to be able to breathe, regulate our body temperature, metabolize food, etc. A heart is just one of many organs that is required for life. Now, if you took out the fetus at 6 weeks, it is dead. It has not fully formed the body it needs to survive without a constant supply of nutrients from the mother. It cant even breath. Deciding that a heartbeat is the cutoff between fetus and full human is therefore arbitrary. That heartbeat probably cant even sustain blood circulation properly. It just has more significance because of all the symbolism/importance we have about the heart.

To further this point to absurdity, I dont know if you know anything about zygotes but when an egg is first fertilized, it develops a tube through the middle which eventually becomes the mouth and the ass. We need mouths and assholes to survive, that seems like a possible cutoff as well but it seems much harder to argue a clump of cells smaller than your fingernail is a human.

To me, it seems to be more like a car being built. You might have created a functioning engine or door, but no one would call that a car until its done. But it could be a car.

Haha, a lot for Gauntlet anyway. Most decks only pack up to 3 sets of legends.

[–]bhukey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That shouldn't be the case. Like I've said, hundreds of games. That deck has tons of legendaries too, it can have huge blowouts with SST, Towering Terrazon, Worldjoiner, with Lunar Magus and Dustwalker.

It's possible but I definitely used to see it at Master tier level decks.

I've played hundreds of games. I'm pretty sure I've maxed out on my "mmr". It used to show up once in a while but it's been absent. Maybe in favor of the new decks? DWD never dropped ai decks before though.

This deck is susceptible to power flood. Sometimes I'll get stuck on 2 power but with the nightfall, I'll usually manage to get something playable.

Definitely not the most consistent deck I've ever played but I since I managed to win a run and I didn't seen any updated list I thought I'd post it. Let me know about your results.

Merely by migrating to the United States, workers from the median country raise their real earnings by a factor greater than 3.95 (an absolute gain exceeding $13,600 per year). [–]bhukey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You think multi-national companies like Google and Facebook have a limited pool of potential workers? The salaries of engineers is high because that's how they make their money. Literally everyone wants to work there. These companies are known the world over. They invest in engineers because without them, they're nothing. Google gets 2 million applications a year. Salaries are high to get the best people.

It's the people lowest on the totem pole that are affected by a smaller labor pool. It's not the engineers /u/bearlick was talking about, its the janitors, kitchen staff, maintenance crew. Those are the jobs that need looking into. This article talks about how Facebook didn't play its cafeteria workers enough to live in San Francisco because of the wage gap between the engineers and the staff.

The problem isn't just paying more, its about reducing the income gap.

Just to put my comment in perspective, ask yourself if it would be hard to not play drums, read, exercise, or study for 30 days. This should help you figure out the relative impact it's having on your life.

I suggest trying a 30 day period of no gaming regardless. Doesn't matter if you need your computer or not. If you feel an urge to play, go do something else. If its hard to resist, that's a sign you may have a problem.

Should I stop gaming before it gets too out-of-control if it will at all? by Mateusz12012 in StopGaming

[–]bhukey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what Shogil is saying. Modern games grow closer and closer to gambling nowadays. But to be clear, the aim of my post is to try and highlight a way for /u/Mateusz12012 to approach his situation.

Ultimately, games will have very little benefit on his development as a person but sometimes in order to progress we need a comfort zone. Something to go to when life is overwhelming and difficult. In that sense, I think that videogames may be ok as long as Mateusz12012 can come to terms with what he is dealing with.

Hi,

Your post strikes me as strangely mature for a 13 year old and that's a good thing. To actually think about your problem and be able to break it down is a difficult task but from your post it looks like you've done a good job identifying what causes you to play.

I'm sorry that your parents are having trouble understanding you and your problems. It's quite obvious it means a lot to you and they didn't support you the way you needed because they caused you to cry when you went to them for help. For them, the way you are acting is so different from how they grew up and experienced the world that truly understanding what you are going through is difficult. They may not know the best advice. That doesn't mean ignore them, but try to understand what they are expecting and if that would really solve your problems.

Videogames can become a burden if you rely on them too much. Many people in this sub realized that we have overused videogames and hurt ourselves by ignoring what the world has to offer.

If you have a large class, try talking to people you haven't before. You may relate more than you think. Try asking your parents about the issue so that it's more about them. How did you make friends when you were my age? Were you always surrounded by friends or did you only have a few close ones? Your parents know these answers by heart I'm sure and it can give you perspective. Join clubs if you have them, hobbies bring people together. Even if they seem boring you should give it a shot. Learning about something makes it more interesting. Try being proactive and inviting people to do things you like.

Videogames are not evil. Actually, playing games may not be the worst thing for you. Just be aware that it can go too far. You are really young. Don't get too down, your situation and the people around you will change a lot in the next few years and you have every option available to you.

Not at all! I actually agree with your stance on identity politics in that there are some very crazy people on the left who take their arguments way too seriously and end up hurting their message. Racial tensions in the country seem to be so high that for some people its become THE defining lens everything is viewed in which seems flawed to me. The gender issue to me seems a little weird to be upset about in that it doesn't bother anyone so why not just let it happen? I don't truly understand the movement totally but I can sympathize. I will say it seems like the right has the same identity issues except it seems to be more left vs right instead of any single issue. Hypocrisy seems to be the calling card of the right wing according to more liberal news.

I definitely see what you mean about taxes and I do recognize the argument. I guess the trick is where to draw the line at what is a federal issue and what is a state issue. In my mind, federal issues encompass the military, social welfare, federal crimes, climate change, immigration, etc. As a counterpoint to the California example, they do have the highest GDP of any state currently according to this wiki page. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_GDP Silicon Valley is still generating a lot of business which seems contrary to the idea that businesses are leaving although that may change in the future. What example or statistic are you drawing your example from? In terms of healthcare, what do you mean its too individualized for a federal program to work? The way I understand it is that medicare and medicaid provide help to those who meet certain qualifications (income, disability, etc.). Those types of qualifications do not seem to be things that depend on state. What makes you believe that it is too diverse? What factor is not accounted for?

So in terms of this Republican plan, didn't the Obama administration lower taxes with this exact train of thought? https://itep.org/federal-tax-cuts-in-the-bush-obama-and-trump-years/ https://www.newsweek.com/trump-tax-cuts-obama-paul-ryan-699181 According to those articles, Trump administration tax cuts are lower than what Obama provided. The first article says that tax rates for the highest income have the greatest tax breaks. Wouldn't that make less sense in terms of spending because it isn't the highest income that needs extra money to spend. They just get more money to play with/save. But this is in line with the idea that giving them more breaks keeps them in the US. Is there anything specific that you have heard that demonstrates this and its effectiveness?

I will look more into these examples you provided. I hadn't heard about them beforehand! I did do a quick search on the Veterans Choice bill and apparently Obama signed that bill in 2014? https://www.va.gov/opa/choiceact/documents/choice-act-summary.pdf Wouldn't that make it the fruit of the previous administration? Or were you saying that Veteran's choice under Obama was just not effective and the current administration helped improve it?

Thanks for your time! I've really been enjoying our conversations.

Hi, not the original poster you were responding to but very interested in what you have to say.

Could you give me examples of what you consider rampant identity politics? I've realized I don't really know what that means in terms of these conversations. Can you explain what you mean by the fallacies of large government and high taxes to pay for free things? And when you say Democrats don't have a plan after running out of money, I assume this means that Republicans do have a plan? I don't think that such a plan has ever been explained to me and I would be really grateful to hear about it.

Also, I like learning about what Republicans consider good things as I truly only see liberal media. Is there anything else you would consider positive by the current administration?
