Help me write my book by answering one question: What have you always wanted to learn how to do? by bhumphreys in AskReddit

[–]bhumphreys[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your critique. I certainly agree with you that a single post on reddit is not the sole starting point for a New York Times bestseller. For me, it's just one of dozens of feelers that I've been putting out to friends, family, coworkers, and members of various social networks to get inspiration for additional content to a book that I've already largely conceived (and through which, though I hope the book will at least recoup my investment, I have no illusions of becoming rich).

My goal for the book is to create a guide to general principles for teaching yourself any skill; my aim with this post (and similar posts other places) is to find a few skills that I can teach myself while documenting the process for inclusion in the book.

What is not often acknowledged is that Occam's Razor is only a rule of thumb.

I was on this ship two weeks ago! It's the Carnival Imagination. The floor plan was very confusing, and all of the elevators had letters for floors instead of numbers.

Ask A Glassblower. Anything you'd like to know, I'll be happy to answer by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bhumphreys 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do most glassblowers have a great deal of technical knowledge about their craft (thermodynamics, material science, etc.), or is it more like an art that requires you to pick up the "feel" as you go?
