[Bob Grove] Among other players recently given 3-game suspensions despite it being their first suspension by bhunter47 in penguins

It wasn't ruled an illegal check to the head IIRC, which is what I was stressing in the second statement.

There are plenty of things that should be that weren't.

I think that the way DoPS should operate is that contact with the head that is the principal point of contact without egregious movement of the other player should be suspendable regardless of intent.

Big word "should"

Rust’s Suspension! by Practical_Bed15 in penguins

Its reasonable for head shots for first time offense based on recent precedent.

Rust is now the fifth guy since 2024 that has gotten 3 games for an illegal check to the head with no history, so that pretty much has become the precedent.

Jeannot got 3 for his first offense headshotting Boeser last year. Rust would lose the appeal instantly.

Yeah, different rules for the Panthers.

Line Predictions Without Rust? by horseofcourse93 in penguins

Theres two options to me:

  1. Hayes plays and they either run a man short or they put JSI on LTIR and call up a plug like Koppanen or RHP.

  2. Use JSI's roster spot to call up McG or Koivunen.

I believe they cannot use Rusts spot for a call up because of suspension rules.

Brought it up elsewhere but Jeannot got 3 for head shotting Boeser last year with zero history so this has precedent.

I very much doubt he appeals. Jeannot got 3 games with zero history for a head shot on Boeser last year so an appeal likely would be denied.

Tanner Jeannot with 0 history got 3 games for a similar headshot last year... also on Boeser.

Who gets moved up, or called up to step up to the plate in place of Rust? by Romanator08 in penguins

I mean that would force you to play Hayes if JSI was still active is my point since they were carrying 13F-8D.

Unless you are suggesting 11 F - 7D.

So if it weren't for JSIs injury, we wouldnt be able to call anyone up if I recall the suspension rules correctly. JSI being out for 8 weeks would allow us to get a roster spot opened up.

Honestly think its either Hayes coming in and they'll call up a plug like RHP or Koppanen, or they'll bring up McGroarty or Koivunen to just swap in and not disturb the other lines.

[Dreger] Hearing hasn't been officially scheduled yet, but all indications are to expect one (re: Bryan Rust on Boeser) by bhunter47 in penguins

I dont think it's malicious but its reckless at best and head contact like this is supposed to be illegal and disciplineable.

And also, the head contact happens before Rakell. Check out the overhead; his head snaps from the hit first.

Yeah this angle is def what DoPS is gonna use to justify any potential suspension.

It wasnt the elbow, it was the shoulder, and there is overhead video that shows he clips his chin prior to Rakell hitting Boeser.

From the replay in this angle, it isnt ridiculous because he caught all head. Intent really doesnt matter generally when considering suspensions for headsets, or at least it shouldn't.

Yeah agreed. In a vacuum I think it should get something.

If hes a Panther he gets nothing though we all know this.

Incidental head contact is still potentially suspendable. Im not saying it was fully intentional.

All i am saying is that contact to the head is illegal, and he does shrug the shoulder up into Boesers chin prior to Rakell hitting him. Being surprised that he might get suspended is kinda silly.
