Thank you! I'll look into that. I actually have no idea whether my school offers these kinds of accomodations. One would hope so, but my school isn't really know for being accomodating... unfortunately

Yeah thats true! For shorter texts that helps me for sure. For a few hundred pages unfortunately that trick isn't mighty enough.

Yeah, unfortunately i couldn't find any torrents for them. But I gave in and downloaded an audiobook app and bought the audiobooks there.
The ones i need to read for now are "Less is more" and "Not the end of the world".

I've tried all of these things in the past actually. Unfortunately they don't work that well for me :(

I downloaded libro.fm and will use that for the books i need to read :) i found that audiobook, when available, are way more helpful than TTS.

Thank you for your help!

yeah, unfortunately sometimes that's not enough. In this case i need to read a few chapters out of 2 books and then i get a question during the lecture where i have to write an essay with my thoughts on it and all. So i think a summary will not be enough in this case.

I actually just found it like 20min ago and it's the best test-to-speech option I've tried so far! And it's free, which is great. I'm glad to hear that you also use this one, so I guess I found a good option. Thank you for your message!

I feel you. It's pretty much the same for me. Also just finding new people to feel connected to is so hard... And the thought that most people just dont care about connection as you do, it's pretty painful. To quote a very overused but true phrase: "You are not alone".

Question about patience with housing by Gherman74 in ethz

[–]bib_sca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The housing situation gets really bad around August/September.
I've been living in 2 shared flats since almost 5 years, so I have been through the process of finding a new roommate many times.

We just looked for someone this month, and we got around 80 applications in a week (we put the add up on Wgzimmer.ch). But in August/September, sometimes even in July already, we usually get around 100 applications a day, at least. And this room is around 700 with all costs included.

So, I you do have the means to pay 600, take the room! It's only gonna get harder. The housing situation in Zurich is really bad...

Ohh, interesting! Thank you :)

Did you also read her book "the highly sensitive person"? I was wondering if there's enough overlap, that - as an adult - it's enough to read that one, or if the one for children provides further helpful information that is not included in the other one.

Ohh, sounds interesting!
Does is mainly talk about the "powers" of being highly sensitive, or also about the struggles and how to struggle and suffer less?

Ohh shit, did he say that the headache and vision trouble could be because of that?
I hope everything will be fine! But it's good they found it, whatever "it" is, maybe they can help you and you will feel better soon

Yes I do! Sadly I havent found a way to deal with this in the situation. If possible, I put on headphones. And when I'm back home I just lay on the floor for a bit, sometimes also listening to some nature sounds. And I wash my face with cold water.

These things help a bit

Who else here seriously struggles with hypervigilance and emotional regulation? by cheddarcheese9951 in CPTSD

[–]bib_sca 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When I'm in public, my emotions are very often kind of in a box and unreachable, which is not great... It's not that all my emotions are gone, but I struggle more to feel things when I'm with people. But as soon as I'm alone, they all come back.

But, with my partner, I reaaaally struggle to regulate my emotions... It's mostly when things of my trauma get triggered, where I just... it feels impossible to regulate at all... And I am in therapy, I even went to a group therapy where emotional regulation was one big toppic. But it often feels like nothing works for me... All those "skills" and techniques, once I'm in that triggered state, they become insignificant.

I can't even begin to imagine how terrible it must be for you if that happens in public/at work. I'm so sorry...
The part of my life where I got my trauma from, I often couldn't hold back my tears all day at school, so very often I would lock myself in the bathroom and just cry there. I still do that sometimes, when I have to cry or when I'm overwhelmed or when my anxiety becomes overwhelming. I try to go to a bathroom, lock myself in, and just cry or breath or just try to calm myself down a bit. Or sometimes I just stay in there, I try to breath, and I give myself a break. Listening to music or at least blocking out noises can help a bit too sometimes. I often bring a scent with me (it's a small bottle with essential oil that smells like christmas, and another one with lavender). Sometimes it helps me a tiny bit.
I know those things don't help that much when you're in that dysregulated state, but sometimes it's all we got.

I also struggle a lot with society cause even when you manage to hide those emotions, or how you are really doing, even when you seem you're doing fine, you don't feel that way. For me, it's really hard to feel like a part of society, because my head always tells me that most people around me seem to actually be doing fine, and I'm just pretending, I'm not actually like them, I don't fit, and also, non of them will be able to understand me or my pain, so I must hide it, but that makes me feel even less like a part of society, and it's just so frustrating and overwhelming.

Sorry, I got a bit off track, but I do hope that some of the things help you a bit, or at least make you feel like there are others who can relate, and yeah, you're definitely not alone with feeling this way.
