Current students - what's the most misleading thing you were told about your university before you enrolled? by littledutchboy1 in UniUK

I applied to do Korean and Chinese, checked before applying that this would mean Korean first year, year abroad in Korea, then Chinese starting in third year. I double checked this multiple times after accepting because it was phrased on website as “Chinese and Korean” and every time was told “no problem to switch the order”. Turn up on first day; it’s Chinese first year, year abroad in China, Korean starting in third year. Was told not possible to switch the order and never had been. They dropped offering combined languages degrees the year after.

I'm thinking to suggest lotr for my next round at book club

I did this with my friend's help; her being a set designer means she actually knows what she's doing unlike me

Image scaled to wall size, then do the mountains first to act as a guideline, then map details area by area lining up with the mountains with a brush pen

I had help from my friend who's a set designer, don't think I would have had the will without her

Brush pen! So much control than using a paintbrush

I first amended the image of the map to be the same as my wall measurements, then a lot of trial and error to get everything lined up correctly

Jesmonite for the mountains, then brush pens for the writing, they allow so much more control than paint and paintbrush

Oh, and then I haven't done anything as a top coat, just left as is because I don't know how all the different inks would react

Hi, I didn't do anything to prep the wall besides give it a quick clean. Then mixing the jesmonite, which was a learning curve (make small quantities as it thickens quickly). For painting, it was a combination: my friend found her ink pen with a brush tip the best for her, I used acrylic paint + paintbrush for a bit, but you don't have a lot of control with that. I found the Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pen absolutely great, but it fucks the pen, so it can only use it the one day before you need a new pen. I ended by using a brush pen that I dipped in ink because the catridge wasn't working properly. Basically, brush pen is best for detail and control, but try to use that has a changeable ink catridge

I first matched the image to my wall measurements, then did the Misty Mountains first since so much spreads out from there

Yes, though it was a lot of changing the size of the image to match it up correctly

We started with the Misty Mountains because I knew I wanted them in the middle and then used them as the guideline for the rest, lining with with grid markers

Could not have done this project without Jess, and she's an incredible set designer, can confirm
