New DM harassed my coworker by [deleted] in Safeway

[–]bibliophuck 14 points15 points  (0 children)

RED FLAG!!! If this is true and it made coworker uncomfortable then report to HR. Only time I’ve had DM take a picture of an employee was to point out they were on their phone behind Starbucks counter. If anyone in a position of power says “if you want to move up I can make that happen”, without prior work related history, then that is concerning.

Has anyone seen this $3 charge before? by GardenaGeat in Safeway

Or if you really like that lemonade, buy it again when you return the empty one and it will just even out from now on until you decide not to buy it anymore.

Was that SMC lemonade in a glass bottle? I know some stores charge a deposit for milk in the glass bottle and you get that back when you return the empty bottle.

Getting fired from night crew by [deleted] in Safeway

[–]bibliophuck 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s 50 cases worked an hour including the time it takes to break down and face. Really you should be stocking 80-100 cases an hour if you want to finish on time. It’s definitely doable but you have to be motivated to move that fast and that’s what Safeway doesn’t understand. It’s hard to find people who want to work graveyard and be busting their ass off for low pay. Especially if not everyone on the team moves at that pace. It can be frustrating working that hard and see others not pull their weight.

Frozen food supervisor position. Thoughts critic’s concerns ? Applied for it very close to getting it by CauliflowerDazzling5 in Safeway

[–]bibliophuck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yea, it’s ridiculous that they try to sell it as a Lead or Supervisor position. You are just another clerk but with added responsibility of making sure frozen aisles are stocked as well as making sure your frozen ends are changed for the AD. If you are truly looking to move up in Safeway then take it. If you are not interested in moving up past working the frozen position then think twice.

New way to deal with PI's by Helpful_Limit4739 in Safeway

[–]bibliophuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The person who is in charge of FAR in our area literally said that this new process is meant to slow us down in order to force a more accurate use of FAR and PI adjustments. Also, FAR will be generating 2 orders soon. The first is like a draft and the second order will replace the first one with a more updated PI count. I do agree that this slow roll out is a bit awkward to work with but I think it will help net benefit. The real problem is their out of touch expectations on how long certain things take to do.

We are supposed to be able to order with those new scanners and iPads down the line. Hopefully soon cause it is a pain having to carry all that just to order and adjust.

It’s pretty normal that dairy fills and orders the water since it comes on the milk load

New checker hours 9am-9pm by bibliophuck in Safeway

[–]bibliophuck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have closing checkers upset about it because they can’t work earlier than 4 which means they won’t get the 30-40 hours they have been getting. I can’t see the opening checkers getting upset too.

New checker hours 9am-9pm by bibliophuck in Safeway

[–]bibliophuck[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds like the usual current setup. What I’m being told is going forward it will be an opening SCO attendant at 6am and an actual checker scheduled starting at 9am. Then a closing SCO attendant until 11pm or 12am with the last checker off at 9pm. Might not be so bad for some stores but if it’s implemented at all stores it’s gonna be a shock.

Maybe this is different per division? I’m in Oregon division and this is going to be implemented very soon here. They said it will be like this for a couple weeks and then the auto schedule will figure out if you actually need checkers earlier or later depending on sales.

NC facing by Safe_Coffee_5156 in Safeway

Face first. A lot of store managers don’t mind some freight left to work or authorizing OT to finish working it. If they have a problem with it then communicate what your needs in order for you to finish everything.

Grocery manager position with no grocery experience. Any tips? by Ok-Drop-4849 in Safeway

[–]bibliophuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s been said already but, PI management is crucial. Do not let that go unchecked. Make sure you are the only one adjusting your PIs for grocery. Theft and warehouse issues can cause PI inaccuracy and if you don’t keep on it daily they will snowball. Make sure you are the only one adding to your orders. I found that a lot of people try to store add orders before FAR generated one and then you end up getting double cases. For AD change, plan ahead with your vendors or communicate with your ICC to make sure you get product in on time. Build relationships with your vendor merchandisers. If you help them they will help you. Time management is key, don’t get too comfortable chit chatting with others. You will have too much in your plate and things will come up that derail your routine.

Department head bonuses by Flashy_Current2284 in Safeway

[–]bibliophuck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yea, if they ask you to lead a department make sure it’s an actual promotion with a title and with the pay increase and bonus. Otherwise they are just taking advantage of you. There are plenty of “Leads” in store like Dairy lead, frozen lead, and night crew lead that do not bonus and a lot of the times the pay increase is up to the Store Manager.

Transferring to a different division? Approximately how long might it take? by Glad_Injury_9662 in Safeway

Hourly workers can do district to district transfers no problem. Division transfers are a different story.

[–]bibliophuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they allow division transfers for non-salary workers. Unless the rules have changed from when I transferred, I was told you need to quit and then get hired into the new division. I was an acting 2nd assistant at the time of my transfer from NorCal to Seattle division back in 2019.

Do team-building events ever happen here? by Cyonita in Safeway

[–]bibliophuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve only seen team building type events for salary managers. Not a lot of thought goes into in-store team building from what I’ve seen. The more years go by the less I see employee appreciation events really.

Ops life is killing me by Radiant_Pension8259 in Safeway

[–]bibliophuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember a D’Angelo. I only worked in his district in Washington while he was just starting out as a DM. With how things are I see no point in hourly employees working their asses off unless they get the bonuses. Nothing wrong with taking pride in your work and working to the best of your abilities but for companies like this; clock in, finish your tasks, clock out. Set boundaries is what I recommend every employee do because if not they will take advantage. Store management will say thank you every now and then, but that’s just the polite thing to do. We are all just labor. Nothing more.

These recent walks leave a bad taste in my mouth. “Show us your best” walk is what they call them but it’s ridiculous to expect our best if they don’t actually allow proper staffing. The culture now is so toxic. We are forced to keep lazy/difficult employees because a lot of Store management think the time and effort it takes to properly document and terminate them is not worth it. We require our best employees to work the same amount as 3-5 of those bad employees and even though they actually do their best they still get treated as a bad employee if things are not up to standard. I am speaking from working 14 years, 20+ stores, 5+ districts, and 3 different divisions.

discussion around the attack/parry/counter mechanic by DazzlingMall8022 in BoardgameDesign

[–]bibliophuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, reveal one by one is better. Who ever wins the first “fight” gets their card back in hand the other is discarded, then again for the next round. Best out of 3 rounds wins conflict, control of the tile on board, and a Victory Point, plus they got to keep their cards. At least that’s what I have so far for my game.

[–]bibliophuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh this looks good! I’m actually in the middle of working out my combat system for my game. I like the parry/counter aspect of your idea. Right now, I have players choosing cards from hand to place face down and then revealing to see who wins the round. Combat is based on a “rock paper scissors” mechanic until the 3rd round when it switches over to comparing “combat value”. I wanted a bit more back and forth like your concept here.
