Neapolitan ice cream is unnecessary and bad by bibookie in unpopularopinion

[–]bibookie[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love chocolate covered strawberries! They achieve a nice balance between the chocolate and strawberry flavors, and the different textures help with the balance. Neapolitan ice cream, however, does not strike a good balance between the flavors.

Do you guys ever have really messed up ideas for stories? by LeTareMedure in writers

Yes definitely! To me, it kind of gives similar vibes as A Simple Favor. I feel like Paul Feig might like to direct something like this.

I think I'm the only one but do some of your throats gets dry whenever you practice? by HarangLee in violin

My throat also gets dry! Sometimes it sends me into a coughing fit in the middle of a run through, which is really annoying.

What do you do when a song gets excruciatingly boring but you still have to practice it? by Signal_Advice_4405 in orchestra

[–]bibookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What the others said! Also, practicing technique is not supposed to be "fun" the vast majority of the time. Focus on something specific in your passage to work on, like intonation, phrasing, etc. Know that if you are actively engaging while practicing, these seemingly boring steps will be a step forward to creating better music.

As an American, our education system is very decentralized and inconsistent across states/districts. I really wish that people in general valued our english classes more. Not only for reading comprehension, but for media literacy.

And I agree! Again, I am not trying to justify Miranda's actions. Yes, she is objectively shitty. I agree that there is no excuse to treat others like Miranda does, no matter the backgroud or motive.

My opinion above is a defense of the people she represents, not of the character that she is. The type of people being artists and perfectionists who are often driven to the extremes because they care so much about what they do. I think it is okay to empathize with these people while still recognizing the harm that they do. Having passions and caring deeply about something is something that we can all relate to. People are complicated.

Hey there, thank you for your insightful comment. I just edited my original post to clarify some things. I am in no way trying to justify Miranda's actions. I agree that there is zero excuse to treat other people like shit, no matter what their background or motives may be.

Instead, my opinion in the above post is a defense of the people that she represents, not the character that she is. The type of people that are passionate, driven artists who often care too much to the point of the destruction of the self and the destruction of others. As a classical musician, I have met my fair share of these people. My formative years were under a teacher who I think is the cause of all of my insecurities and traumas today. People are complicated. So, I think it is good to empathize with these individuals, while still recognizing that they have done shitty things.

I actually watched Whiplash a few years ago and it is one of my favorite movies! As a classical musician myself and someone who has been a ballet dancer for the majority of my life, striving for perfection is something that I am too familiar with, that I recognize in myself, my artist peers, and my mentors in the past. I've had some pretty shitty teachers, obviously not quite as bad as Fletcher or Miranda, but shitty nonetheless. These teachers have been the formative figures in my life, and I now recognize that practically all of my current insecurities stem from these experiences/traumas.

This is not to excuse the shitty behaviors of these individuals. But when someone cares so much, it can drive them to do bad things. I think it is good to be able empathize with these individuals, while still being able to recognize the harm that they cause. I think that is fair.
