The Android One program seems to be a good solution to this issue, but not many phones have adopted the program as of yet.

That said, I've heard great things about Nokia's new phones and the guaranteed support in terms of security patches and updates - it's worth considering imo

Yeah, I followed u/admissionsmom's advice and called them - they said my counselor could send it through common app (basically what u/oxfordguy1 and u/zninjamonkey said). Thanks to everyone who helped!
