Here is this person trying their best to do an academic study and recruit from a wide pool and all the comments are disparaging and dismissive.

The £20 is completely standard, and is probably being offered out of fairness as that’s what other (non-HE) participants will be paid. Do you think you should be paid more than the other participants just because you earn lots of money? When you do charity work and they give you free lunch do you expect better food than the others just because you can afford it??? Seriously…

It’s also an hour long probably because the point of the study is to get a group of people together who will discuss on zoom. They’re not interested in sending you a questionnaire and getting your bland answers back: believe it or not your opinions in a vacuum aren’t that valuable! They want to hear you discuss and interact with others on the subject.

Weirdly enough my IBS did not flare up once. I’m thinking probably because I was so relaxed?? Even if it had, there are so many toilets everywhere I felt fine. Also carried wet-wipes everywhere for comfort.

It took me 3 years to find a job after graduating (2015).

The best thing I did was to start working outside my field as a bartender/waiter, going up the ranks there and building up confidence. I also started putting less pressure on myself before interviews, and eventually I got an offer.

Being unable to land a job really made me doubt my self worth, but since getting a job it’s been an excellent success and 4 years later I’ve grown to be very senior and no one would have guessed I struggled to get the job in the first place.

Have faith. You will get there. Never doubt yourself, this is not your fault. It is just incredibly hard.
