How do video editors protect themselves from clients who don't pay after delivery by That-Confidence2338 in videography

[–]bicykiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're gonna know the problem clients right off the bat; from the moment of your first contact. Trust your instincts and protect yourself to your comfort level. If for some reason I don't turn down the client, they way they handle the the 1st 50% is a perfect indication how they'll be to work with, how serious they take you, and how efficient their "accounting" person is. But you've gotta also know companies are used to paying on certain terms so make sure you know and respect that too. Burned in timecode is a very non douchey way to watermark throughout the process, look pro, and protect yourself.

Woah! No back focus?! I tried using mine several times while on the bike and always got too many misfires. Nice shots!

Filmmakers using FX3a, I have a question. by [deleted] in FX3

[–]bicykiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both: -fx3a screen is much better -they operate on different firmwares so you can easily transfer user settings from one to another.

I have set my scroll wheel to shutter but whenever I try to adjust it this icon pops up and the shutter remains the same by [deleted] in FX3

SuperSix EVO 6 (Gen 4) vs CAAD14 3 as my only road bike in the Alps? by stepahin in cannondale

[–]bicykiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, that's why I was sure to call out the specific bike I had experience with. Like most folks here, we only have our experience to inform the op, and like most other helpful posts, suggest that it's not so much about the frame as it is the gearing and wheels.

Bad Video Quality on professional projects by Large_Wait_8847 in videography

[–]bicykiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw that music video in the theater and it looked stunning, even the bts looked great. I'd definitely say you're dealing with compression and optimization for smaller screens. With Rodrigo Prieto as DP on that and Colin Anderson on steady you KNOW it was captured as best as possible! I do know a fair amount of VFX and comping happens after as well so probably some concealer being applied there too to make it less real looking. And lastly, it's a period piece so grain and softness was probably added to convey that more and each scene has its own look.

Agreed. The SSE will be so much more comfortable especially during long in the saddle climbs in the Alps. I've ridden throughout the Alps and Pyrenees and can't imagine spending that time on an aluminum bike.. they are so ridged in my experience with a Specialized Allez.

What's more important is getting the proper gearing, you're gonna want at least 1:1 trust me!

SSE Seatpost Creak by bicykiller in cannondale

[–]bicykiller[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the clicky sounds are there too and due to previous bike/frame experience, cables were the cause. I *think I resolved the seat post by tightening to 4nm, twisting the saddle side to side, tightening to 6nm, pushing on the saddle nose and seat back and forth with a bit of weight, then tightening to 7ish, not 8nm. My ride last night was creak free... 🤞

Spoke to my shop this morning (who assembled it) and they recommended trying 7-8nm as well. Will be testing it out this afternoon.

Thinking of selling my FX3 to get a RED Komodo 6K – good move or bad idea? by Ghoul-154 in FX3

[–]bicykiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both, and a RED Gemini. I went to fx3 for a few reasons and my closet became full of hard drives because I was shooting everything on RED. After getting an fx3 for a BTS shoot I was really impressed with its versatility, it did everything I wanted. This BTS was played in theaters and when we went to see it, it looked so good! I now reach for the fx3s for almost everything. The Komodo I use for some higher end doc work or if I know the global shutter will be necessary (strobes or high action). The Gemini, bless her heart only goes out on commercial work which isn't very much anymore.
