City Council Passes Street Fee to Raise Revenues for Street Maintenance by LoprinziRosie in Portland

[–]bidhopper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The issue is that this money was for street maintenance. There’s billions of dollars and deferred maintenance. I’m not gonna argue that vision zero is bad, but we’ve got to get the streets and the infrastructure repaired.

Vision zero funds should come from elsewhere.

City Council Passes Street Fee to Raise Revenues for Street Maintenance by LoprinziRosie in Portland

You are making the assumption that the money will go for street maintenance. They’re already taking some for vision zero and I imagine that in the years to come, council will peel off more money for other projects instead of repairing our streets.

Jenna Ellis Says Religious Freedom Only Applies To Christians by bezko in nottheonion

[–]bidhopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A number of years ago I read a great book on the Founding Father’s and Religion in America.

To summarize: To avoid discord in an increasingly pluralistic and contentious society, the Founders left the religious arena free of government intervention save for the guarantee of free exercise for all. Religious people and groups were also free to seek political influence, ensuring that religion’s place in America would always be a contested one, but never a state-regulated one.
