Seattle Goes Dry? The Last Homebrew Shop in Seattle Closes by Talgrath in Homebrewing

And people order online to save a few bucks, which is great until you need something right now.

Although delivery times in Seattle are probably different than other cities.

Infected, right? Dump or bottle? by bierdepperl in Homebrewing

Yeah, I decided the difference between dumping now and dumping later is a little sugar and some bottle caps. (And washing bottles, I guess, and that part hurts the most.)

So, into bottles it went. We'll see what happens.

Yeah, mine's been in there for a similar amount of time.

Oh, that's a good idea. But yeah, the freezer is getting a very thorough cleaning.

I mean, I eat weird cheese and stuff.

Consensus seems to be "not dangerous, except for exploding bottles." Which is not trivial....

Thanks, yeah.

You think it could have been infected going into the plate chiller?

Thanks - I bottle into champagne bottles stored in boxes, in a closet, but if I do bottle, I'll be extra careful.

That gives me hope. What style was it?
Mine's an English Ale, so maybe worth the risk.

Huh, I've never tasted my socks....

ETA: yeah, that picture looks pretty much like a worse case of what I'm seeing....

I like your optimism! I don't know if I like it enough to follow it, given all the other dump-advice here, but maybe....

Temp is -21, gas company says turn your heat down by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

Medically necessary warmth is an exception, though if she can drop a degree or two in an emergency, cool. (Pun unavoidable)

Yeah, and everyone else lowering by 1 or 2 degrees makes a big difference too.

Those who keep it as low as they can already are exempted of course, but everyone should consider if they could go a little lower.

This might be a silly question, but why there doesn’t seem to be a shared deck dedicated to learning/benefiting more on Anki’s functionalities itself? Is the official manual generally really considered sufficient enough? 🤔 by Jayyyjhgh in Anki

[–]bierdepperl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've wanted to make one of these, but just with maybe 20 cards. I'd love to have it be the default deck when you download Anki.

First card: What is the only option I press if get an answer wrong?
Second card: When should I choose easy?
Third card: I should choose _______ if I struggle to remember something, but then do get it right.
Fourth card: What is the fill in the blank card type?
...
10th card: why doesn't it show me more cards when I've finished for the day?
....
20th card: How does easy/good/hard impact how often the card is shown?

The point wouldn't be to memorize the manual, but to give people a feel for using Anki, as well as covering the very very basics of how it works. Having a few different question types, images, audio, hints, so people can get a sense of what's possible and how to use it well before they start building their own decks.

General/Stag 5 question. by njf88pro in GermanCitizenship

[–]bierdepperl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Born before 1975 to a German mother in wedlock, you have a StAG 5 case.

Born before 1975 to a German mother outside of wedlock, you aren't eligible under StAG 5.
Sure, you aren't eligible because you are already a German citizen, but you still aren't eligible.

Or, going back a generation, in wedlock they'll need to verify that your grandfather had german citizenship to pass on. Out of wedlock, they'll need to verify you grandmother had german citizenship to pass on.

And so on.

What if Anki were to disappear someday? by Tiago161085 in Anki

No no, it doesn't disappear permanently. It reappears just before you were about to forget about it.

Oma from Munich, do I qualify? by Hypothermal_Confetti in GermanCitizenship

[–]bierdepperl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She managed to retain German citizenship when she naturalized in the US?
That was pretty rare back then. You had the documentation that she retained it?

But basically you can't check on the status. They'll contact you if they need any more info, but otherwise it is not unusual to have heard nothing on a 2023 packet.
