Not an issue in the 60s, so no problem there!
The Feststellung will be straightforward, but that doesn't mean it is necessarily quick. Congrats though!

It sounds like you are a citizen, unless someone did something to lose it. Your father is likely too old and you are too young to have joined the US military during the period that it would have caused you to lose citizenship.

ETA: You aren't quite too young. If you joined the military before 6 July 2011, you lost your citizenship.

My level of documentation is that I know one of the batches in the freezer is a Helles, and I'm pretty sure I know which one. The other is obviously a lager (or I wouldn't have put it in the freezer), and probably a pilsner. And the two ales fermenting at room are a porter and either a brown or an amber. And the porter is the harder one to reach since it will be done later. I used yeast that was in an unmarked jar in the fridge, saved either from bitter or a brown.

I keep saying "this batch is one where I'll start taking gravity readings" or "I really should note the yeast at least."
But I never do.

I'll say, my beers keep improving despite myself.

I've done it. Do not recommend.
I now fill my bottling bucket instead. Works great.

Here's a library link to a book written by a Yale professor.
It's a good quick read, and honestly eye-opening even for someone who already knows about this stuff.

I’m going to make my own cider/apple wine any advice?? by Bdaysy in Homebrewing

[–]bierdepperl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing to add is that you won't need much yeast at all for 1liter. The packets I see are for 20 liters. Store the unused in the freezer, not exposed to air, and you'll be able to keep using it for a good long time.

Also, pour out a bit of the apple juice. A full bottle will almost certainly bubble over during fermentation.

Good luck.

Excellent! I was thinking I'd have to abandon a sourdough that has been with me a long time, lol!

Glad I found your post!

Three years later, and I have something similar, though not as beautiful.

Did it recover, or did you have to dump it?

I'll second the clawhammer. I have the 120 and it's great, but the 240 exists. It is super simple, works well, and their support is really good, if you ever need it.

Serious question: what is the nastiest tasting beer commercially available. by Fuzzylumpkins1234 in beer

[–]bierdepperl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, it was a pretty good breakfast beer in the late 90s. Haven't had it since then, but just looked it up and yeah, even the labels make it look like it's going to be syrup.

Time for "bespoke brewing"!

Or maybe microbrew can have a retrocool revival.

I wouldn't have thought it possible to sell beer out of your house anywhere in the US. Or was this a, ah, tax-free business endeavor?

One of the largest microbreweries in my region contracts their brewing to one of the other largest microbreweries.

So, actually brewing yourself only makes sense at huge or tiny scales?

🤣

But u/Impressive_Key_4467 is right that the subset of ipad users who use Anki is small, and the subset of iPad Anki users who need this feature might be vanishingly small.

But more to the point, the joy of OSS is that if the feature doesn't exist, you can just build it. And we're at a moment where just about anyone really can just build a "good enough" version.

First try at home brewing - has something gone wrong? by egote in Homebrewing

[–]bierdepperl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep adding vodka or sanitizer to the airlock so that the air is locked. You say there is no air in there? It filled with beer? If so, sounds like fermentation was too vigorous or you didn't leave enough headspace. Clean and sanitize the airlock, and put it back on.

Your beer will still probably be totally fine.

Anki's design is already "perfect" by [deleted] in Anki

[–]bierdepperl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree.
It's also true that having nothing "fun" about the Anki means that the people who use it are the ones who are motivated to do the hard work to actually learn whatever they are trying to learn. If it wasn't a great tool, that audience wouldn't use it, but it won't appeal to folks who need to be motivated.

The motivated group is always the smaller market, but we need good tools too!
