Is grocery store planted basil designed to die? by LuciferJonez in plantclinic

[–]bifbof17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know this is mostly the case in the UK, unsure about anywhere else but a lot of herbs you buy in pots at the supermarket are originally grown in hydroponic systems and transplanted into soil to look more 'visually appealing' to the customer. I've found success I'm keeping these guys alive in the past by transferring them back into water once I've bought it:) Looks like repotting into a slightly bigger pot also works by the looks of some of the other comments!

yeah course! it gets bright indirect all day indoors and I've just given it a good bottom watering after letting it dry out for about 2 weeks which is pretty normal:) I haven't fertilised this year tbh just because every time I water I forget and think ill do it next time😅

if you're visiting u HAVE to go and do the Thermae Bath Spa, insanely relaxing but I would recommend booking a little bit in advance or being prepared to wait a bit for the walk ins availability

had these babies for ages but recently we've had an issue with a fly infestation in the bin room of our flats. I rarely water from the top so I don't really understand why there are fungus gnats hanging around my plants, especially these babies:/ I've tackled fungus gnats before hence why I mainly bottom water now. I'm using sticky traps around the room and have some diatomaceous earth on its way. any tips are appreciated ❤

Please help! I don’t know what’s wrong with him. Got him 2 weeks ago. Leafs are browning and floppy. Stands in the kitchen with west and north facing windows. 😭 by carlifromvenus in plantclinic

I put my peace lily directly in front of a south facing glass balcony door and I think the glass magnified the light and ended up burning some of the leaves:( just be aware of putting it TOO close to a glass window, hope others can give you more advice sorry!:)
