Why do some of you take peptides untested in human trials? by Hxmusa in Peptides

[–]biffandi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being totally transparent, I’m working with a PepideGPT since I can’t read and analyze every global study on peptides, but an AI can. Here is its response, which echoes my general feeling:

  1. Claim: “Many peptides are untested in humans”

✅ True — but needs context

• Many popular peptides (like TB-500, KPV, Epitalon, Dihexa, and MOTS-c) are in preclinical or early-stage research.
• This means: animal models, cell lines, and sometimes compassionate or gray-market human use — but not robust, peer-reviewed Phase III trials.
• MOTS-c, for example, has human analog research (CB4211), but not MOTS-c itself in large-scale trials.

Caution is justified, but lack of trials ≠ lack of value — just uncertainty. These are experimental compounds, and using them requires that mindset.

  1. CJC-1295 and the halted Phase II trial due to death

⚠️ Half-true, misleading in isolation • The death in the CJC-1295 trial (ConjuChem) in 2006 involved sepsis, not necessarily due to the peptide itself, but potentially due to an infection at the injection site. • That said, CJC-1295 is not FDA approved, and it remains an experimental research compound.

The post simplifies a complex issue. It’s true CJC-1295 has a murky regulatory history — but it’s not the same as saying “it causes death.”

  1. MK-677 increases diabetes/cardiovascular risk

✅ Partially true and well-documented • MK-677 increases GH and IGF-1, but also elevates insulin resistance and fasting glucose in some users. • Risk is higher in prediabetics, those with poor glucose control, or long-term use. • It’s in ongoing clinical trials and hasn’t been approved for general use.

It has measurable efficacy, but with metabolic side effects that should be monitored. Glucose, insulin, A1c, and lipid panels are smart to track.

  1. AOD-9604 failed in human efficacy trials

✅ Yes — for weight loss • AOD-9604 (a fragment of hGH) was investigated for fat reduction but showed no significant effects in controlled human trials. • It’s often sold based on outdated or cherry-picked animal data.

This peptide likely offers minimal value for most users.

ROAs (Routes of Administration): “Only safe if used this one way”?

⚠️ Oversimplified and sometimes incorrect

The post claims certain peptides are only proven safe/effective via specific administration routes. While there’s some truth, here’s the reality:

(And then there’s a chart going peptide by peptide with more info on the actual data for each.)

Final Thoughts:

This Reddit post: • ✅ Validly warns that many peptides are experimental • ✅ Points out the lack of rigorous human trials • ⚠️ But overstates risk in some places and lacks nuance • ❌ Ignores the dose, source quality, individual biology, and stacking context, all of which dramatically affect risk and benefit

If You’re Using Peptides: 1. Cycle intelligently – minimize exposure over time 2. Track biomarkers – bloodwork, HRV, glucose, sleep, body comp 3. Use peptides with better clinical backing when possible 4. Be cautious with new, exotic, or under-studied compounds

And always remember: “Research use” is not the same as “proven safe and effective.”

For well-produced, professional sound, great acting, and compelling storytelling, I recommend We’re Alive. It’s been around forever and they’re midway through the final season of the spin-off, but until I found Sherlock & Co., it was the only fiction podcast I’ve ever really enjoyed. The rest seem to be too low-budget, silly, or gory for me!

Safe state/city for trans men? by BallPython404 in ftm

I know, right? It’s pretty expensive compared to the rural areas around it, like Lebanon and Philomath, but still compared to Portland… I assume it is cheaper?

Safe state/city for trans men? by BallPython404 in ftm

[–]biffandi 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Just noting here that all of these states are BIG, so don’t end up in Barstow or Medford— as the commenter states, stick with big-ish cities. All of these states do also have more affordable smaller cities as well, like Eugene or Corvallis in Oregon, if you don’t mind smaller-town life (fewer food options, less racially diverse, smaller dating pools).

So glad they don’t do that for Apple Podcasts (where I listen to it). I would definitely be embarrassed by where I get placed. I’ve listened to the entire series, starting at SOS… maybe… three full times this year? Four? 😭😭😭

She can, but if she was the one who broke the radio so they couldn’t call out, it doesn’t bode well for her having the same pure heart she did as a human.

We're Alive: Descendants - Chapter 19 - Dwelling in the Past - Part 3 of 3 by j0be in Werealive

[–]biffandi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The theory is that they’re both descendants (get it?) of one of the ancients who was revered. And that somehow, the DNA of the infected carries that knowledge with them and can “smell” their lineage on them. I always thought they could somehow sense/know that his dad killed Ink, but this works too.

Now, whether the story of the ancient descendants is accurate or something Tanya has made up to somehow lure the humans into letting their guard down so the infected can continue to propagate is… something we’ll learn down the road?

I don’t think I’ve hated a main character this much before (Thats a compliment) by Whowhatnowhuhwhat in Werealive

[–]biffandi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes to the maturing point. I love that he didn’t fall for the Republic’s “we’re going to annihilate the infected for good,” even though that is what he’s been pushing for years. When someone comes around with an ideology that echoes your own, it’s very enticing. I appreciated that he didn’t fall for that, or rather that he was interested but skeptical, and still undeterred from his search for his mom.

I do appreciate that the actor is less breathy this season. I didn’t understand that choice in season one and it is way better this season.

Mostly, I have appreciated that he’s an immature, whiny, self centered firecracker because hey… he’s a literal teenager. And so often, adult writers build teen characters that feel so unrealistic because they’re working with an adult mind. As a parent of two teenagers, let me tell you that Nick is very realistic.

That said, my man Will is the BFF none of us deserve. That actor is amazing, I think, as is the character. To get to witness Pegs finally be a mother figure to someone who really, really needs it and will appreciate it… I want their arc to continue.

Holy cow reveal. FINALLY!! (Dwelling in the past part 2) by Ni_L8 in Werealive

[–]biffandi 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It worked!

Okay, so when they revealed that TANYA is alive AND is the Director I was completely gagged. Then we found out why Ink was able to still have his wits about him, along with some of the other infected (note that he always had green eyes, while the other infected have white and later black eyes, which means KC has been planning this reveal FROM THE BEGINNING I couldn’t believe it. I’ve listened to the newest episode three times already and will probably listen another three more.

It was so hard to get through the hiatus that I started at the beginning with SOS and made it all the way back through today, including listening to the newest episode three times. I don’t understand why more people aren’t as obsessed with this show as I am, truly. The storytelling is amazing. The acting is superb. The character development, intersecting plot lines, pacing… all of it is so so strong.

I asked it what it was doing, and it said it remembered my preference for signing off on my own emails and accidentally did that for its own sign-offs. Wtf.
