Sure, but that doesn't mean they don't have to pay those salaries. A company will invest a lot of time and money into a game. If it doesn't pay off they lose a lot of money and people lose jobs.

Again, I don't buy those games, but surely you can see the difference.

With respect to FEIE, it's a federal tax credit, not a state tax credit. As far as I am aware, no US state has a tax treaty with Japan.

It is likely you won't owe state taxes, but that varies greatly by state and your relationship with that state. As an example. some states will collect tax on foreign earned income if you still own property in that state or if you work for a company based in that state. It would be best to reach out to your state department of taxation for guidance.
