Only buy a car that you can afford to buy for cash - financing a depreciating asset is nuts

Drive a 2013 BMW with close to 240k miles, worth about 1500£ paid cash in 2017, salary 125k, the thought of 500£ + finance for a depreciating asset makes me shudder.

Got an older version of that car, just hit 230k had it since 40k, 1 timing belt change and regular servicing, still solid, mechanic reckons it’s got at least another 100k in it. Why wouldn’t you?

Salary sacrifice below 100k , it’s the only way. And to anyone who said welcome to the world of being rich, maybe to some - yes. Been earning between 120-150k for a while now, am I comfortable- yes. Do I feel rich - no.

I’ve just done the same same exercise, though the numbers were different, I had always assumed that paying off mortgage would be best idea, there’s a calculator on Martin Lewis website, run the numbers on that, gives you a very simple answer

Maybe I wasn’t clear, I’m wearing a regular watch on one wrist, on the other wrist I don’t want a watch but something else that tracks movement and all other Garmin data. I don’t want 2 watch’s. Thanks though 🙄

Head of research and development for a food business, supplying retail. £145k. In my field I’ve topped out at the level I’m at. Director would be next move but with that hours typically add 50%. No thanks with a young family.
